There just absolutely has to be a parts mix up somewhere.
Do you have the FW part number?

i found that it is the right part # according to their site. SC05S is whats in the car

I called spec and he had me take measurements and pictures and is talking with "production" he said and will call me back. He had a car that was same as mine and took same measurements that i did and mine was just a hair under 3/4 of and inch thicker than his

I feel like I'm gettin the run around. I told him that alot of other people have had this prob and he got extremely defensive saying that this is not a common prob at all. Told him to do a Google search! He's saying they're gonna want me to send all the parts in so they can examine them etc.

This just sounds like poor customer service. What do you think i should do??

Did you measure it to see if it is 1.0" thick or a little less from the mount surface to the disc surface?

crap i didn't sorry i measured from the mount surface to the very end of whole assembly (edge of TOB) and it was 4 & 1/2 inches. I also measured with the TOB off from the mounting surface to the fingers. Put a straight edge across them and the was 3 & 1/8th

Guy just called me back and said they want me to send the entire assembly back to them to look at. flywheel and clutch kit all . . . . yet more down time. Oh well nothin i can do i guess

SC05S is whats in my car also....but originally I was shipped an SC85S which is for six speed cars with a T56 (not ZF) tranny...so there might have been a mix up from the get go...and I wish I could tell right off the top of my head, how to tell the two apart, but I can't. sorry

I had the same issue in my 89 when I installed the SPEC clutch. It was such a nice feeling when I tried starting the motor and the clutch was pushing back at me. I ground the fork some and it fixed it. However I will say that I too think the flywheel is too think. My clutch grabs about very close to the floor. I have to push it all the way to the floor to get it into reverse or first. It's like I need a longer rod on slave cylinder. If the flywheel was thinner the PP and TO bearing would be closer to the motor and would provide more travel.

I'm pretty sure it was more than that just simply by looking at it.

From what they guy told me at spec is that the fingers on the PP look to be to far out, they're almost flat. Said they should be more concaved

Here we're some pics i sent them:

Am I missing something? Why does the pic above look nothing like pic #2 in the OP's post above that. In the pic above, the meat of the flywheel is as thick as the ring gear and the OP's pic #2 the meat of the Flywheel is almost twice as thick as the ring gear.

I installed a SPEC many years ago, and had no issues with install or operation. I did however have issues with the SPEC at a later date that got me fully re-imbursed for the clutch assy and the headers and a replacement ZF bellhousing and the trans TO bearing sleeve.

I run a McLeod twin disk now and had no problems with the install on that one either.

I think there is something obvious that has been overlooked during the parts procurement process or during the original install.

I wish you luck with getting this issue corrected.

I always liked the "point the vendor to this thread" method.
