X-pipe.

X-pipe.
I am looking at buying an X-pipe to replace my reasonator for my B and B 3" inch system.
I heard that the dual pipe in the reasonator goes from a 3" to a 2.5" or even 2.0 ".
What positives and negatives could one expect going to an x-pipe?
Also where is a guy supposed to go to buy one of this suckers in 3" pipe? I have only seen one at stainless works and its listed at 350 dollars I believe.
Thanks guys....

Have you checked with B&B? Thy could have one that is designed specifically to replace their resonator.
Check Summit Racing. They should carry Magnaflow X-pipes. But these will be shorter than the B&B resonator so that will require some modding of the existing system. And stainless versions will certainly cost more than anodized steel versions.
The X-pipe will cut down interior resonance (the older B&B systems generated a lot of interior resonance) Some say that exhaust flow is improved and will help to quiet loud exhaust.

Thats a real X pipe, look at all the area there is in the middle.
Most are nothing more than part of the wall cut out and welded which imo decreases inside area never saw how that could be beneficial.
Ricky you want it to sound raw just run 2 straights, aluminized pipe with eliminators. Skip the pretty stainless stuff so its cheap in case you change your mind next week.

Ron if I can get a good price on an x-pipe then why not. It will be on the dyno sept 11th so I will see then how the exhaust flows.
I figure x-pipe and eliminators will pick up 15-20 rwhp but the proof is in the pudding.
Go to the parking lot and have some puffs.

Magnaflow X-pipe on my C6z. About $140ish. It's a 3". Mr Gas also makes a 3" that is narrower so may fit in the C4 tunnel better.

wouldn't this style below be better though as posted above? I'm sure it's a custom one off deal though no?
Here's my sexy x pipe.

there is a thread in the zr1 section where some guys are talking about a few x pipes like stainless works.
Rick I have to ask.. Im wondering why yo are searching for a few ponies with exhaust changes? You will have more noise andmore resonance. Wasnt 'streetability' and throttle response and driveability the main focus of the build? I mean a slightly bigger cam and 421 ci would have ate it up and you could have had 20-30 more hp easy. 215 heads and bigger cam and I bet you would have had 50 more easy.
If you think exhaust flow is a restriction remember it will depend how high you rev it as well. The higher the rpm the more flow will impact hp numbers. You can open up the exhaust but then what about headers? I think you will gain more from selling yours and buying 1 7/8 primaries (assuming you did have 1 3/4 right?). But then you would gain from removing the resonator and mufflers. It never ends... where to draw the line is the hardest part.

Its really not that hard at all. I just want to make sure that my exhaust is holding me back at all. The car is plenty loud on start up and idles amazing but you can still have a conversation in the cockpit.
There is a guy a few cottages over that has a modded heritage 92 Z28 that has the usual TPI stuff done to it. He asked me what combination I threw together for the 88 and I proceded to tell him.
He mentioned that he would give his left nut to have my motor in his car. I won't be upgraded my heads at this time but I'll probably be doing some exhaust work.
Its a hobby and it never hurts to brain storm and throw stuff out there to get other guys opinions that have hopefully been there and done that, but I am realizing that most haven't been there or done that......

Even summit and jegs sell their own brand of x-pipes.You need the narrow one for the tunnel on my 96.I might try just the x-pipe first and leave the mufflers.I doubt they are a restriction that far back.
The x-pipe will change the tone of the exhaust to a higher pitch. Some like some don't).It may produce more resonance being it is not muffled at all.It may depend on your mufflers.
I liked mine but have put the corsa resonator back in the system and their isn't room for both.
Dr Gas was one of if not the originator of the x-pipe.I love their design and have had one on my BB mopar for 10+ years.Sounds great with Dynomax super turbo mufflers.

To avoid that, I'd consider buying one of these. It's a resonator/x-pipe all-in-one. Sounds great on LT4Obsesses LT4!!!

This looks like a good midway point. Rick i think this is a winner
Is this an actual muffler? wondering if this was used in the tunnel could you still add mufflers in the rear also

You dont need backpressure at high rpm
X pipe/resonator isnt a bad idea really.
Rick without a res. or mufflers youre going to get sick of that car real quick;could be wrong though
It will be fun for maybe a week you wont care about any rwhp gain or loss at that point;your ears will ring for hours after most outings. Who cares what the dyno sheet says you can always mod that out later
Personally why seek out attention you dont want meaning you nail it and the cop 3 blocks down just waits for you to show up...couldnt see you do it but sure heard ya.
Just get some cutouts and call it a day.

With factory mufflers and this, you'd be just a smidge louder than stock. From what I heard, this sounds better than the factory LT resonators.
The overall sound level will depend on whether you use this in conjunction with cats and/or mufflers.

Update:
I'll be buying a 3 inch SS B&B X-pipe very soon. I will try my best to get her back on the dyno before snow falls. I could gain 5rwhp, and I could gain 15rwhp. I have a feeling it will be on the lower end, but time will tell!
