It's also funny how they all seem to be crushing vettes when you read the mustang forums but every one I see on the road cowers like a little girl when I pull up next to it. I thought it was common knowledge that the 4.6s combined with the rustang suspension were only competent enough to drive Miss Daisy :crazy:

I raced a new mustang gt not sure of the year in my what was then stock 86 and beat it by about 1/4 of a car length I back off when we hit about 100 because I thought I proved my point. That was also with a hole in one of my mufflers

Personally, working at a Ford dealership; I have driven many 5-speed GT's (autos are turds). I also drove an auto LT1 vette we had in inventory. Comparing the two is not even close. The LT1 is by far hands down a faster car in stock form. :cheers:

I had the opportunity to race a LOT of Mustangs when were at a Mustang Day track rental in my stock 88. I was running 14.0@98, with a few 13.9's@101 and I beat every stock Mustang I ran. I made 27 passes that day and half of them were stock stangs in all different forms.

My best friend has a 2000 GT. Stock it runs 13.9-14.0 in the quarter. I used to beat him all the time. But now he put on a supercharger and put in some custom cams. Now its in the high 12's. Guess it's time to do my top end. Put him back to looking at my rear license plate..... :cheers:

The originally posted statement "stock 1999-2002 Mustang GT's are faster than stock c4's" is not totally inaccurate. There is significant overlap in performance between a new GT and various C4's in stock form. The 2000 GT is about 0.3-0.4 seconds quicker than the popular '87-'93 Fox Mustang which puts it right smack in the L98 Vette range. Nucking Futs compares a new GT to an LT1 in a seat of the pants subjective comparison. Of course the torquey 5.7L feels stronger, but there's 8 proir years of C4's that have less performance than an LT1. Plenty of GM drivers assume the GT motor is unchanged since '96 which is untrue. The latest GT motor will run with early 32V Cobras. Something tells me a 2000 GT 5 speed that runs 14 flat will beat a couple high 15 to low 16 second '84 Vette's with auto's. In fact, a 5.8L Grand Cherokee or 16v Neon or fat Northstar Cadillac Deville will too.

I dunno, goody. I've seen Mustangs in the 7's. Perhaps they don't want to race you illegally on the street. They are the most popular car in the world for track drag racing, so I doubt they're afraid of anyone.

I don't think so. Anyone with a totally stock C3 or C4 crossfire is running one, according to Motor Trend, Car & driver and a host of other reliable mags. My 15.8 second near stock '88 Lincoln beats most of them. An '84 C4 can not touch a stock '84 or '85 Holley 4bbl T-5 Mustang GT in a straight line with a 10 foot pole. Those Mustangs ran typical 15.7s 1/4 mile & it was widely recognized that the '84 Vette is quite a bit slower. A 16 flat is respectable for the crossfire. Motor Trend tested the '82 Corvette 4 spd manual crossfire at a blistering 16.5s at 84 MPH. It kicked the Ferrari Mondial butt that ran a blistering 16.7 seconds! (I know, they are all liars...Corvettes MUST be fast)

car and driver is a bunch of idiots, who cant drive.

i ran 15 flat stock with an 18y/o engine and now 14.3 with minor mods, cam heads and exhaust are going on in a few weeks then i'll run mids 13's

oh and i should add i took out a 93 cobra from a stand still to 120, he couldnt even pull on me. After he told me he was selling the car and wated 7k more than i paid for mine.

Our local vette club has fun with the local mustang club. We invite them out to our autocrosses and they invite us to their drag days.

We autocross 3 laps around a 3/8 mile oval (1 1/8 miles) with cones set up for gates and slaloms. The vettes have all the advantages when it comes to autocrossing, stock or otherwise. The best mustangs normally run about 10 - 11 seconds slower than the average C4. When we go play on their playground the advantages slide their way.

I haven't seen to many stock 99-02 GT's in their cars but the ones I have seen normally did a number on the L98 C4's in the 1/4 mi. The stock LT1 C4s usually hold their own (~50/50). There aren't that many stock C4s in our club that autocross either.

I think the big difference is that the guys & gals in the local mustang club take their drag racing just as seriously as we take our autocrossing. Bottom line is they are a great bunch of guys (gearheads, car guys, whatever) and we have a great time tweaking each other's noses. :yesnod:

nsimmon, I hear that same excuse on every forum (lame test drivers). What about Motor Trend, Hot Rod and Car Craft drivers...do they stink too? If so, how do you explain the fact that they run faster on the same day in the seat of a Mustang?? Anyway, good to hear your car in stock form was 1 full second faster than all '84 C4's tested back then. No doubt your track is flat and you're running stock Gatorbacks, not. I'd like to see how your totally stock 15.0 crossfire fares against a typical stock, low 15 second LT1 Impala, Seville Northstar or Mark VIII. Perhaps those cars run 13's at your track??? Probably...I think it's your track. ;)

I read a few GT owners on the Corral site think the 2000 GT is faster than a Z06. They claim the Car & Driver test drivers don't know how to drive...they all run 12's stock but somehow forgot to mention their nitrous bottle or Mickey Thompsons. Do they count? No, the Vette has wider wheels etc. After reading your post, I see their point. The GT IS faster than a Z06 (for the same money outlay). Whatever.
