My stereo antena won't go back down after the radio is turned off. Is there a fuse for this or dose it mean my motor is bad? Who sells the best replacement or are they all China made junk? Thanks!
My antenna got all snobby on me this morning too---stuck up, motor wouldn't turn off---so I yanked the fuse & started searching the forum. There are a lot of antenna threads with DIY info. I'm going to punt and have a local Vette shop take care of mine, looks like a pain to swap out. Your's may be new enough for an easy ribbon replacement...do a search.
Good news for now, after pushing the antena down I turned the car on to see if the motor was running and when I turned the stereo on the antena came back up and is working again. It must have gotten stuck or is on it's last leg.
When mine refused to go down yesterday I pushed it down but the motor wouldn't stop (radio and ignition off). I turned the ignition/radio on and it came back up, but again wouldn't retract. I think I did this little dance twice before digging out the owners manual to see which fuse to pull. I suspect my ribbon has lost a couple of teeth in the fully extended position---rises till it runs out of teeth then can't retract. Shoving it back down re-engages the teeth but doesn't shut down the motor for some reason.
I opened up the trim and disconnected the relay before driving home last night & will let the mechanic figure this one out.
Get the new mast kit with the mast nut tool. The mast nut is round with two little dimples. The mast nut tool has two 'warts' that line up with the dimples and then unscrew the nut. Have someone turn on the radio so the mast is trying to extend while you pull it up and all the way out. Take the little sleeve off the old mast and put it on the new one. Feed the new mast/ribbon in while someone turns the radio off so the motor is tring to retract the antenna. Do it with the teeth on the ribbon pointed out towards the side of the car, but you might have to rotate it a bit until the motor/gears grab the ribbon. Just guide the mast in, put the nut on and you are done. Takes 5-10 minutes. If the old ribbon broke though this will not work and you will have to take the motor out and clean out the broken piece of the ribbon.
My 1990 antena is stuck up too! The dealer said they are discontinued! I've looked online and it says tthere are 2 different models Delco and Harada(sp?) Says you can't tell which one until you pull the motor out, is this true? Wish they made a solid stubby antena and we wouldn't have this problem anymore!
