Looking for some opinions from those that have been there before. The motor in my car blew up a while back. I picked up a rebuilt 350. What i know about the motor. It was bored .30 over. Has a gm ZZ4 cam. A older set of trick flow aluminum heads. Performer intake and a carb on it. Pretty sure the car was mostly stock when i got it. It is an automatic. Probably had a shift kit as it would chirp the tires going into second. Maybe stock would also? I put a ported intake on it that i got from QWS. (great to deal with.) it is a true dual exhaust now with Corsa set up. No cats. Had it to the track once 15 flat consistant. Absolutally love the car. Always want more hp. But still keep it daily driver smooth. Finally getting the fund to get the new motor installed. I plan on doing a torque converter thinking 2400 stall and headers for sure. Possibly gears to 355/373 if funds allow. My two options are CFI or carb. I would prefer CFI. (not interested in this becoming a debate of technologies) Both are good set ups. Period end.
My concerns are. Will the CFI work with this set up without ecm programming? I think the cam specs are 208/221 lift .474/510 lobe separation112 whatever that all means. I dont mind leaving a little horsepower if it is as driveable as stock. No matter what it is going to be a huge improvement. And keeping horsepower in the 300-350 range may keep tranny alive longer.
Any ideas on torque converters, headers and such. More stall less stall?
As far as stall is concerned you'll like the 2400/2500. Send PeteK a pm and he will hook you up with what you need. My new engine, stall, tranny have been supplied by him. Real good guy to deal with and won't steer you wrong.
Your CFI will work with that combo, however it will need to breathe a bit better. You may want to port that intake some more.
As far as fueling it I would recommend some 90lb injectors. Just go to advance auto and buy a set for a 1990 GM 454, Think they run about $90 each.
Do the fuel pressure regulator mod and you can change the spring in there to give you a bit more fuel pressure. I bought a spring from TPI parts (?) down in AZ for $4 plus shipping. That spring will give you a range of 15 to 25 psi for fuel
You can do this without any tuning to the ECM or mods. You will have to play a bit with the fuel pressure and timing but you can get it to run good.
