Before I buy 4 new tires I need a tire replacement recommendation
I need a tire replacement recommendation because my 4 Kuhmo tires are 7-8 years old so I need to replace them but I can't spend more than $160.00 per tire. I plan to buy them from either Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct. So please give me your tire replacement recommendation and why your recommending this brand of tire. Also my 94 Corvette's current tire setup is staggered on 17x9.5 wheels with front 275/40-17 and rear 285/40-17 question: would I better off with 275/40-17 tires on all 4 corners or stick with my current setup?

Tire Rack and Americas Discount web site offers all available tires, sizes and prices. If you have 17"X9.5" wheels all around you can install 285/40ZR17 on your wheels.
I have Michelins 285/40ZR17 all around (like 89-92) and have no issues.

Need more info on driving style, preferences, etc. I personally have Nitto NT-05's on the car right now, but that was a choice driven by what was the grippiest tire for the track that had decent street manners and was under 175 a tire. The grip is phenomenal and they are pretty darn quiet for what they are. Just don't drive them in lots of inclement weather.

I wore out my Kumho MX's and considered the new XS tire but the NT-05 was cheaper and had similar reviews. For my NT-05's, I paid $600 delivered to my house from Discount Tire Direct.

If you are budget constrained, I would call tirerack.com or whatever discount supplier of your choice, discuss the vehicle and its intended purposes, along with your price considerations that work for you. Those folks are Tire Rack know their tires and suited applications at least from my experience.
Budget aside, I like the Michelin P/S that I run on my car 255 front/285 rears.....would like to go larger in the rear but as I have found getting larger than 285's on 17's is getting pretty hard to do, unless you go with drag radials or something like that.......(I have custom 8" in front and 10" wheels in the rear)......these tires handle, grip, are quiet and do everything I want them to do.......not the cheapest however.

I'm in the same boat, my Kuhmos are getting a little old in the tooth. I'm pretty sure my next set of tires will be Nitto 555's. I was running the 555's for a while on my C5 and impressed with the grip/performance.

Budget wise the Nitto 555 is hard to beat.Good price and reasonable wear with performance.
My NT05's have great dry traction but won't be around long in daily driving.
Go to tire rack and use their ratings/reviews section and make your choice.Bear in mind how you drive plays a huge role.
I would be hesitant to buy a high end tire if I knew I would be replacing it from age long before it wore out.

I've had the Conti Extreme contact DW for a while now and they are among the best street tires I've owned. I don't think they will hydroplane, they are z rated and I'm running 275's on the front and 295's on the rear. The bite in the corners is very good. I would not call them a race tire at all but for the purpose of getting around the real world very quickly in the wet or dry, I think they're great.
For what it's worth, the reviewers on tire rack rate them an 8.7 which is the same rating given to the Michelin PS2. The top 3 rated tires are the Continental, the Eagle F1 and the PS2. All are rated 8.7. The difference is the price. The Conti's are about half price.

Conti makes a nice street tire for sure.
The Sumitomos would come in under budget.
For the street they do just fine.

I got BF Goodrich Super Sports for $155 at Discount Tire. They ride good and have great traction wet or dry. The treadwear is supposed to be good too.

I like the summitto HTRZ for an inexpensive street tire.
275 square or 285 squre will be fine.
I run 275 square and have used the summitto as my "rain" tire on road courses.
Wife loves the Khumos on her c5.

If you run 275's all the way around you can rotate them which is a plus since the rears wear so fast compared to the front. If you don't put a bunch of miles on them and they age before they wear out you don't have to worry as much about tread wear either.
