Only when I drink in excess..It helps to keep one foot on the ground.
Seriously, the gear and low end power will make most starts exciting.
Fresher tires tend to have better grip.... not as much fun

No problem with it can easily turn the tires if I want and will generally give a chirp in second and possibly third if I get on it with a stock 91 A4. With the Borla exhaust youdon't really hear it as much as feel it. If you are having problems it is generally old tires or you are cornering and over powering the tires.

Those 2:59 gears are going to look alot better this summer when gas goes up to $5.00 a gallon for regular grade.....That's what the "Experts" are saying anyways....WW

When I had the GSC (OEM tires) on it, it would spin and spin and spin. I no longer do that, $1,200 for the Michelin set.

If you are racing, it's bad and nothing more than wasted motion as your opponent drives away from you.
On the other side, it's good if you are into making some smokey type runs and enjoying yourself, why not?
PS The tire manufacturers will love you

Don't think he is worrying about that with what he is asking. Anybody who is should buy a Smart car or a VOLT not a vette.

I honestly, don't know... and I have never had my 2.59 geared 88 that fast! Doubt I ever will. I will be swapping to 3.07s soon so I will report back as to whether it causes wheelspin. On my car now I can't spin them from a dead stop without powerbraking. I used to get wheelspin occassionally when I had the 7 year old All Season 255/50/16 Dunlops on it (and could powerbrake and light 'em up for 200 feet). But after installing these 285/40/17 Nitto 555s there is no dead stop spinnage and even powerbraking only results in some spin before it hooks.

When I bought my '87 ( 3:07 ratio) last winter the tires had 1995 date codes that were scary loose on wet pavement & spun a few times on dry pavement as well. I got some 9.5" rims & 275 Goodrich's & haven't broken loose since.
We'll see what happens with the LS3...

I recently dug up an old Car & Driver article from 1985 and it in Chevy was bragging about hitting the 150mph mark with the (then) new L98-350... and John Heinricy was quoted as saying they'd chosen the 3.07 axle specifically to reach the 150mph mark. I always wondered if this was supposed to mean that the 2.59s couldn't make it to 150. Like maybe the the less torque at the RPM necessary to reach those speeds just wasn't enough to push it over the 150 mark.

my 88 with a shift kit, 3.07's and good tires only spun through second(chirped in warm weather). car went 14.1 @98 so I'm assuming the motor wasn't too low on power.
