10" subs, Stock Locations. Can't be done. Unlesssss
I've read all the posts that state "10's in the stock locations cant be done. PERIOD" The "PERIOD" part is what I had an issue with. Admittedly, I had to make a few modifications. But isn't that what WE c4's guys do?????
Just as before, I had some personal criteria I had to meet:
1) Stock speaker covers have to work
2) Cargo strap hold downs have to remain in place (those black clip things on the rear wall)
3) I absolutely WILL NOT cut the original speaker infrastructure of my car in any way so that it can be returned to stock at any time.
4) It has to look stock to the average Joe.
5) , cargo shade has to work
6) Most importantly, it has to sound like it was worth the effort.
Anyway, at least if you don't like what I'm doing, tell me where it is you see the problem so I can see if I can find a way to solve it in my install. Looking for constructive criticism, not naysayers.
Thanks, by the way, I'm just about half way there.

Not bolted in and the grill is not over the speaker yet. Also, I'll be trimming the carpet to expose speaker a bit more without going outside of the speaker cover. That's just lithium grease that got on the storage cover..ignore please.
and compared to stock look:

Coupe89, what else ya got in there? I'm trying to decide what I want to power these with . Thinking about going with two separate Rockford fosgate mini amps a mono and 4 channel.
Also, just bought some Alpine component for the front kick panels. I had some pioneer component 5.25" in there in the last car..This time, I'm gonna try to stuff some 6.5 alpine components in there since they have the same mounting depth.
Btw, I know most opt to put the 10 or even 12 in the storage box but I wanted them to go in the stock locations so I can still hide my beer

I'm sure Agent86 has done 10's, as have I. I used "Ultimate" brand, dual-voice coil woofers (they make an addl 3db sound).
Here's the amp I used. I pulled the original letters and replaced them with the rear bump "CORVETTE" letters.
Speakers and amp installed....
I could have used the OEM covers but they were scratched thru normal use (loading/unloading rear cargo). So, I made my own with 1/2 x 1" wood frame and covered with Ozite...

Greg, Your install looks Terrific! I searched the forums many times and never saw anyone else do it. The most I see is that 8's will fit with no problems, but to me, it's not much more work, if any to put 10's back there.
Question. Did you have to cut the enclosure floor or otherwise mod the car? How about the speaker itself. I found that I had to cut part of the basket out in back and also trim along the outside perimeter of the sub to make mine work.
I got to say that that install is far more impressive to me than throwing a box back there.
What do you have in the kick panel?
Thanks for posting!

As I sit here and ponder...maybe mine are 8" woofers??? But, they don't look any smaller than the pics above. Hmmm....I can't remember. Guess I'll have to measure! :o (OTOH, they look the same diameter as the OPs).
I used 1/2" MDF for the speaker baffles. I actually NEEDED that 1/2 to lift up the magnets where they wouldn't touch the "floor" of the rear speaker bins (and cause rattles). I screwed the baffles into the stock mounting holes. The speaker is dropped in the mounting hole from above.
Dual voice coil speakers. The speakers I used were bought about 10yrs ago. Magnets now-adays might not prohibit. But mine are fairly beefy.
That amp is a 4-channel amp. I installed it 75x2 (front) and 225 bridged (rear). (4 voice coils 2-parallel, 2-series = 4ohms)
For the fronts, I bypassed the Blose amps. (Pull out the speakers and jump from the incoming wire directly to the speakers). I reused the Bose speakers in their factory (front) locations. They are electronically crossed over where 200Hz and below is removed. 200Hz and below goes to the rear subs.
I also added 4x6 speakers in the dash. Because the Bose are low-ohm magnets, the front speakers are wired in series.
I used the 1st generation Alpine bit-streaming CD (circa 1999). This was before the advent of internal, electronic EQs. So, I have an outboard 1/2 din unit below the Alpine head unit.

This is a great thread. Greg, the amp mounting locations is perfect! In the 91 I just bought they have an amp sitting on top of the ABS unit in the storage compartment behind the driver. One weekend I'm going to have to compeltely re-wire the whole thing.

Okay, now for your expertise. These pioneers are 4 ohm each. What amp/s would you recommend? Will the new rockford fosgate mini amps work well, a mono and a 4 ch?
so:
2 10" pioneer subs 160 rms, 600 peak. 4 ohm each rear
2 6.5 alpine components 80rms 240 peak 4 ohm each front
2 pioneer 4.5" i think 160 peak, 4 ohms rear
the 4.5's are going to be placed adjacent to the subs. I just happen to like voices coming from all directions rather than just in the front. I know that's not popular, but it's what I like.
thanks for you help...
