I have a 1994 C4, currently changing the thermostat and have been told to not use permatex that the thermostat is self sealing. and been told to use permatex on the bolts and around the water kneck. ive searched the threads with no answers and I dont have a manual. any suggestions?
The thermostat has a rubber seal around the edge. That's all you need. Also, no need to seal the bolts.
Make sure you protect the opti from coolant when you remove the housing.

well lucky for me I was careful not to spill any coolant. cause i didnt know about the opti spark. and since there wasnt a gasket with the kit and no permatex used on water kneck i didnt use any. there wasnt even a thermo stat on the car. and it doesnt leak or over heat atm. gonna go drive around town some see if it gets hot again. ty for the response btw. now on to the next project a noisy power steering pump and prob some shocks :=) and wheather stripping and and and
well drove it around town for about 35 miles and no heating problem stayed around 211 give or take a few. but cant get the A/C to go off due to button want work to turn it off. had to mash the button hard before to get it off but now it doesnt work at all. im beginning to think the C4 is the red headed step child of the vette world.

No its not. Just remember that the car is 18 years old and at that age, stuff wears out and needs to be replaced. If you maintain the car you will get many years of solid reliable service out of it.
Glad the T-stat worked out for you. Regarding the rest...hey, it's an old car, there will always be something to fix. When that happens, this forum is your best friend. That, and the factory (red) service manuals.
ya your right, I love this car. its yellow with targa top. paint looks new. just needs all the weather stripping and it hard to figure out what I need with no manual. local parts store dont have them for my year model 1994 and when it rains its like a facet turning on from top of the windows on drivers and passenger side. then I had a heating problem but think I got that fixed and a power steering whine think i fixed that also. now its the wheather stripping to figure out what its called to order it then a problem in front in with a rattle when i hit a bump on the drivers side front. so im just kinda upset about the unknown. but wouldnt change my mind about buying it regardless of troubles.
