I did UD pulleys on my 84 and it was fine. At night if you were stopped in traffic with the brake lights on, heater going and with the 80W low beams I had, the voltage would sometimes drop to below 13, but as soon as you got off idle it was fine.
I did a 25% UD crank pulley on my C5 and it was a noticeable improvement. I don't see why it wouldn't be worth doing on a C4.
