Default rear sway bar end link bushing install

Having a hell of a time getting in the new poly bushings into the sway bar end link. I have tried using a vice and also with sockets. I just can't get it to go straight in, it keeps distorting to one side or the other. I have greased the crap out of it. tried it with and with out the inner metal bushing. It seems like it would be easier if they were cut in half, thats how the control arm bushings were. Has anyone cut them? The problem I see is that you would lose the width of whatever you cut them with. I have done an extensive search and it seems that everyone just says they are a PITA to put in. anyone have a sure fire method they have used? Any help would be appreciated and I guess I can expect the same trouble when I try to press in the sway bar ends as well. always having fun though. Thanks
