Default 85 Gas gage issue

Well since this is the first pretty day since we've got the 85 running we filled her up with some gas and headed out for some cruising.

I noticed that while the range meter says "405 mi" the gas gauge has stayed on full even after driving over 100 miles.

I would think if the sending unit is bad that the range and average mpg wouldn't work, but I could be wrong.

Also as this vette is just a play car for now, would it hurt just to use the range meter as the "gas gauge" or is that thing wrong too?

Thoughts?

My gas gauge does the same on my 92. The range reading is not that accurate. I reset the trip odometer when I fill up and use the average mpg that I have been getting to determine when it is getting low. I get about 20 mpg with mixed driving so I fill up before I have gone 300 miles. This should give me about 5 gallons left in the tank just in case.

Yea we are using the odometer trick for now...I had to do that in my '83 280zx

The jury is still out if we should even bother fixing this or not.

It would probably need to be replaced which is pricey unless you can do it yourself. I tried to run Techron through mine to clean it with no positive result.

I pulled mine out and worked the float arm a few times and put it back in and it works fine It was a easy and free fix may be worth a try
