Even many engine builders shy away from making decisions about altering the composition of gasoline. If octane is what you are trying to achieve, there are many racing fuels available. Union 76 or VP is your best source of fuel that is high octane and is blended for higher performance. Most octane boosters fail to achieve any significant improvement in octane levels. If you are currently running pump gas and are still experiencing this problem with detonation, I would suggest that you check your O2 sensor. Octane boosters often damage these sensors. But perhaps, your engine has compensated for the improper mixture and the timing is off. IF you are not experienced with the procedure of resetting everything back within the normal parameters, you should consult a mechanic that can.
