Alternator only
I have a 76 vette with a LT1 in it, I am running just the alternator but I am having problems with the belt, it keeps slowly walking off. Is anyone running just the alternator? If so did you move it or what did you do to keep the belt on? I have found alternator mounts but they are for F-body cars and I am pretty sure I would hit frame if I used it. Any help would be great!

There is "laser aligning" devices for belt drives. You mount it to one pulley and use it to confirm alignment of adjacent pulleys. How expensive? don't know! Might the larger chains have it as a loaner? Doesn't seem likely.
Middle of this link is substantial information regarding LT1 accessory drives for all production systems. There's different hubs.

Is your alt secured with a bracket on the back going to the intake/top of the head? This part is sometimes ommited by ppl putting on aftermarket valve covers and causes belt loss and broken alt mounts. YMMV

No it is not but the belt is slipping off at the tensioner rather than the alternator. I will still give it a shot though, see what I can fab up.

Burning Brakes
A straight edge (of sorts) along the edge of the pulley compared to the other pulley(s) reveals a lot about belt alignment. It may look straight just eyeballing it but it's probably not. I've even used brazing rod in tight bays to check alignment.

these folks belts are a bit different then yours, you may want to post in C3, the issue may be with the alt. bracket itself, does it flex when running. I went to Allen Grove brackets(bout $90 each) for my alt and a/c , no more issues
btw. I only changed mine to match them up for the a/c upgrade. you could also go back to running the alt. belt around the crank. that would be the cheapest
just reread your post, LT1 , missed that, sorry, use washers and space your bracket foward if needed or grind them to go the other way
