after installing headman headers..what do you do about the EGR and other assorted crap hooked into the system..do you need a new chip? They check engine light stay on when that stuff is removed? car is an 86, headers are the HTC line from headman. nothing else done so far. thanks.
The car/ECM has no "clue" if the EGR is work or not, open or closed.
You can:
*Unhook and plug the vacuum line that actuates the EGR
*Remove and block off the EGR flange
*Drill the headers, weld in a pipe to carry the exhaust gas to the EGR and keep it functional.
Eliminate of the EGR MAY result in part throttle pinging and necessitate a recurve of the timing (ECM tuning), but probably not.
