Default Help with code

42....ever since I reset the timing on my 85, I've had a code 42....I thought I had fixed it with a new module, but now it's back....car has lost a lot of performance since I've had this code. Looking at the wiring, I see that the plastic insulator coming through the distributor had broken off, so I wrapped the wiring with tape to insulate them. I don't know what else to do, so any suggestions would be appreciated..... :cry

Open the connector in the Orange wire near the battery (or pull the ground connection to the battery) for a copla minutes to reset the ECM.

When you open the connector in the Blk/Tan wire to see/set base timing it sets a code 42 (to avoid setting this code insert a papar clip jumper across ALDL pins A & B).

If the code 42 comes back inspect the connector integrity in that Blk/Tan wire.
