Re: 700r4 Rebuild Cost??? (C4 Suke)
Had the 700r4 in my truck rebuilt for around 900. Got a rebuilt one from GM to replace the one in my vette, was around 1300.

Had my 700 steroided (made bullet proof) for $1,500. Shift kit, heavy duty springs, extra clutch plates, etc, etc, etc.... I love it. :D

I rebuilt mine for about $120 total. ( Well...that was the cost of the parts. :D )
The thing to do is find trans shop mechanics willing to do side work and have them do it at home...that way they actually get to take their time and do it right.

Re: 700r4 Rebuild Cost??? (C4 Suke)
Somewhere about 10 years ago I had the '84 rebuilt for about $1200.00. A lot of that was to up date it to current specs. It was a "stock", not beefed rebuild. I am currently having a 700++ HP capable trans built for $2500.00 including the Vigalante converter. My guess that at today's prices. a good, maybe slightly beefed job would cost $1200-$1500, without a "connection". Good luck.

I know it's out of state and you may not want to deal with shipping but
click on the link at the right to Finish Line Performance
I had Chuck rebuild the 700R4 in my 92 Camaro a few years ago. I had a street/strip rebuild and paid around $1,000.
He has several different packages.
If I remember correctly Chuck builds his own shift kits.
The trans shifted firm, smooth, and on time every time.
I would definetly go back there again he does great work

Lost 3rd and 4th gears on mine. Ended up having a remanf installed by the local Chevy dealer. Cost about $1200. Repair would have been about $900 but with the remanf I got all new parts for the additional $300.

Maybe I can look around and just find a used 700r4 that is cheaper, 1k for a tranny is more than I am willing to spend. Thanks for the responses.

From everything I have heard Pro-Built is the place of choice.
I currently have one on order and hopefully it will be here in the next week or so.
Dana at Pro_built is a real standup guy. Builds the tranny to your cars specs and from what I hear on other forums stands behind his products 100%. One year warranty...Total cost was ~1500 to door.
That is a 100% bullet proof 700r4. He said I will definately see a drop in my ETs too. My old tranny was very sluggish after driving 88 triple blacks new tranny (wasn't a pro-built) but it still was much more responsive.
Dana also assured me that it will hold up to the track abuse my setup will be hitting it with. He said he has several 10 sec cars running his tranny with absolutely no complaints. I don't think I will be anywhere near that kind of power, so I should have a pretty decent safety factor.
Let me know if you need anything else.

The problem with a GM trans, is you only get OE parts and OE engineering. If that is all you want or need, then great. $1200.00 installed is a great deal. Especially considering the installer.
I hope it lasts you a lifetime. Good luck.

Re: 700r4 Rebuild Cost??? (C4 Suke)
I just had mine rebuilt, lost 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at WOT, all new clutches and hard parts, a transgo shift kit, and a 2000 stall conveter.
Total price with 12 quarts of Redline D4 $1300.00 installed and out the door.
If I had it to do over I would ( and probably will) go deeper in the converter 24/2600 for street driving would be more fun :)

I spoke with Dana from Pro-built today! He was there slaving on mine on the 4th! WoW what a guy!
He said he want to get it out by Monday, so I can have it installed and tested out before my honeymoon. That what I call customer service!
Also I should have added that I did not have a core charge either.
I am going absolutely crazy waiting for this thing!

The only good thing with the GM Tranny is the warrenty, 3 years/50K.
