Default Distributor terminal help please

I have a wire harness with the male terminal end as shown in pic 1.
Note the slit on the top right prong.

Pic 2, off the distributor the female terminal end (by my thumb)
the slit is on the left side. hence they won't connect.

Anyone know why the change? and If i can just cut my own slit to make it connect.

There had to be a reason. wire change?

Side note: I dont know what years distrib or wire harness are.
I thought they were both off an 1991 camaro?

........... I'm not positive , but I do believe that the F-bodies ran small cap HEI distributors ... therein may lie the difference .........

GM is notorious for doing that. My 88 Vert project car had that issue. Got an ABS system out of an 87 and every part was the same EXCEPT the wiring harness. Had to find a harness out of an 88.

If you want to hack the connectors up to try and make it work, you can. Personally, I would try and find the correct year/model parts.

Can you make a slit where it needs to be?? Better than cutting wires.

You can accomplish your fix a couple ways and do it "cleanly"! First connectors are identified by the terminal and NOT the connector so what you're referring to as a "female" actually has a "male terminal" and if you're buying from someone that does terminals and connectors professionally they might "scold you".

You can buy what you need likely locally and I'd consider doing it this way, buy just the connector and using a release tool just swap the terminals to the new. You could change either to match the other. A fleet supplier or NAPA or just a quality auto parts store should be able to help. There's no need to slice or whack at what you have. As long as you know that what you have is "what you want to connect"!! They're "indexed" for a reason BUT.

If you have difficulty locally here's a less than $5 fix and you would have both plus terminals.

I like the 5 buck part. I guess question is: are the wires the same order? if I use that part?
looks like more research is needed.
Thanks everyone for your help.

If you determine the wires are in the correct order, instead of slitting the sheath around the prong, I would just dremel the tab on the connector so it will seat.

You can determine the pin-out and assemble it as you need. That's why I suggested the "no whack" approach. Like I mentioned you should be able to do them locally also.

To confirm pin-out maybe mention the year of the car and the distributor number you're attempting to use, OEM/GM or maybe after-market model or part number. If GM/OEM the number will be on the distributor. Post maybe the wire colors by the location in each, location would be A - B - C - D OR a snapshot of each.

To clarify that a bit with slightly different language: You can buy just the connector shell and then swap the pins from the old shell to the new one. The advantage to doing that is that you don't have to cut any wires, do any splicing, soldering or crimp any pins.

This is the release tool I use to take weatherpack pins out of their shells:

I used to have one of these but it broke, so I don't recommend it. It might be OK for light usage:

Distrib # reads 1103538 3A28

Pic 1
From distib side the orange wire in "C" slot has a black strip.

Pic 2

Side Note: If the clip were to connect wire to wire this is how it would look.

OK for starters your distributor is an '84 Corvette 1st design and early. I'll look into the rest. To clear all issues: what is the car? You mention '91 Camaro but you're on a C4 Corvette forum so I guess I just need to ask. That might help considerably!

What is written on the paper that's taped to the harness? Could help?

Your distributor wires for an '84 in that connector should be

A - white, B - purple/white, C - tan/black and D - black/red

The connector looks like C206 and the distribution isn't important presently because we don't know what the car or other harness is. I'm guessing you've a distributor that isn't compatible for what you're attempting to use it for. All of those wires were direct connections to the ECM from the distributor of course through the harness.

The car is a 1984 C4. I bought it from a storage auction. 870.00 hole $'s :-)
The Previous owner was in the middle of putting on a TPI injection. (But never finished) From paper work I found in the car. He bought a kit (5 plus years ago) from Affordable “Fuel Injection” Included in his shipment:

I have found everything but the distributor and not sure about the fuel pump relay (unless he installed it)

Update:
The fuel rail and and body all are from a 85 thru 87 305 Camaro acording to rail numbers. I have no Idea what harness could have been used unless it was also from the above camaro

The connector with the blue wires looks like it is the EST connector (On Corvettes that's the tan wire with black stripe mentioned by WVZR-1).

This diagram might be useful:

You know now that it certainly helps to "bring all the information" to the table when looking for help. You've got some reading to do for sure and you've got parts to gather so you'll be busy for a while. Get as much of the information together and documented in one spot and then make your requests. Make notes of the part numbers of what you've got so that you can reference them when needed.

It sounds like an effort but many here have done similar so there should be help.

You never did post what was written on the tag for the other connector. It might solve the ID of it for sure.
