Default NEW 92 Z07

Hello, I have been a long time lurker on here and I just picked up my 3rd vette. (It has been about 2 years since I had my last one, I could not take it any more, I just had to get one!)

Anyways, I need some advice, help. I picked up a 92 Black Rose/Black 6MT Coupe Z07 ($14.5k), all the options, sport seets, FX3 etc. etc.. The car has 31k miles on it and is in great shape. The previous owner installed a cat back flowmaster, new platinum plugs, TB Air Foil, Headers, Chip, K&N...He gave me a 52mm throttle body, MSD IGnition, 8mm Spark Plug Wires, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 1.66mm Roller Rockers, for me to install later. The car pulls pretty hard now and I beleive it to be faster then my last vette (94 6MT, Stock)

Also, the passenger side seat does not move forward or back, and the Service Ride Control comes on and stays on....

I gues my questions are these:

1: What RWH do you think the car is running now?

2: What do you think it will run after I put the rest of the mods on? Will it keep up with a new LSI?

3: Any ideas on what to do about the Ride Control and Seat? Any idea how much it will cost and if it is even worth replacing and/or fixing? :D

Thanks for any help,
Greg

well, you have 300hp to start, prolly 20-25 with headers and catback (if those were longtube headers?), and 10-15hp for the RR. I wouldnt expect much from the 52mm TB, but you could get a couple hp from it.

You should keep up with an early LS1.

Mid America has replacement shocks and actuators for the FX3 suspension.... but be warned... they are EXPENSIVE! Do a search in the archives for posts regarding FX3 suspension. It's a topic that has been discussed many times. The shocks can be rebuilt by Bilstein.... you can buy replacement shocks and actuators from Mid America (very expensive).

You might want to do a search on the passenger seat too... I know I have seen posts regarding that too.

Check these guys out.... can give you an idea on costs for shocks too:

Good luck.

BTW... welcome to the forum.

For the FX3, check your actuators on the front shocks. They're known to pop off or come loose.

When I bought my ZO7 2 days later the SRC light came on and that's all it was. The car has been very reliable since and I'm sure you'll find the same with yours.

Good Luck!!

To obtain codes, short terminals A & C on the ALDL (Assembly Line Diagnostic Link). The ALDL can be found under the driver side dash.

The Service Ride Control light will blink. Each digit is read by counting the number of flashes. Each code is two digits and each digit will have a one second gap between them. Each code will repeat 3 times.

More than one code may be displayed. Each code sequence will start with a code 12. Code 12 is just a start of sequence indicator.

Code Definitions

12 = Start of sequence
13 = Left rear time out
14 = Right Front time out
21 = Left Front time out
22 = Right Rear time out
31 = Left Front out of position
32 = Right Front out of position
33 = Left Rear out of position
34 = Right Rear out of position

Out of position codes are triggered if the computer senses that the actuator has not found the end stop position on the shock. Remove actuator at the indicated shock. Turn the valve gear on the shock stops after about 3 / 4 of turn, then you have a bad actuator. If it spins around continuously then it is a bad shock

41 = Selective ride control switch short to voltage
42 = Selective ride control switch open contacts

You can have a code 42 if you leave the switch in between indented positions

43 = selective ride control switch circuit open.

Nice car, good buy, outstanding posts. You really do want to get to the bottom of the FX3 problem to get the most out of your Z07. Do a topic search for Bilstein shocks or FX3 and you'll find lots of info. Think about having the shocks revalved at some point, but the miles suggest it's early to expect a failure of the shock. Good luck pulling the codes, and let us know if you need more help.
