Default AutoX guys?

I know alot of you guys run your cars on the autox courses. I am thinking about doing the same with my 1992 this year. I have full dual adjustable coilovers on the car but that is my only suspension mod. I plan on upgrading to bigger sway bars and running some good slicks for the track. My main questions are, what sway bar sizes are you guys running and what tires have you found that work best on your C4s.?

Depending on the sanctioning body you are running with may denote what components you decide to select. My 1989 has 30mm front bar in urethane & a 24mm rear bar in urethane. I run Toyo Proxies with a 140 tread wear compound (factory rated). Have fun!

What car did you like best on the track? I have a c6 Z06 and my highly modified c4.

We had a 2008 Z06 and it was a good car on the track (my wife also races). Since we race each season with NCCC, we liked the 1989, it handles well, cheap to race (tires, brakes, & components) and we enjoy out performing new cars with more hp. The 2003 Z06 is also a good track car, last season she raced the 89 & I raced the Z at an event at TMS - we had a great time. Your C6 would work well, but you will worry less about your C4 on the track & it is cheaper to run. Is your C4 an automatic?

No my c4 is a 6 speed. Good spec 2+ clutch, 3.54 gears and zfdoc shorty shifter.

If I were you, I would start off with what you have.......stock. Get the feel of the car. Start off with traction control engaged and keep pushing the car. Then work up to taking the TC and turning it off. Work on your driving skills first. Then next year start your car upgrades. Tires would probably be the biggest upgrade to keep you planted on the course.

For the most part of your course, you will shift from 1st to 2nd and leave it in second. Enjoy the car and have fun.

I have been running my stock 95 for a couple of years now. Just upgraded to 30mm front sway bar and 26mm in the rear. Have not moved up in the way of tires at this point. Still working on the driving skills and pushing the car more.

The 6 speed is a plus in my opinion, our 89 is a six speed but we run the stock shifter due to class rules. It is still in good shape since the car just turned over 36,000 miles. Also, buy a good quality brake fluid and bleed your brakes - think about installing Hawk HP Plus pads for superior braking power. I run the same clutch setup as you have and it works good. Are you proficient at setting up your coil overs?

Just took a look at your thread on your new engine, with that setup in your C4 you really need brake & suspension modifications...and a stage 3++ clutch.

I wanted a stock feel to the pedal and the 2+ seems like it should hold up pretty good. If it goes, I will step it up to the 3+. I know the brakes are a huge hold back. Im thinking I may upgrade to some brembos or a C6 conversion. As far as suspension, I plan on bigger sway bars and a banski end link kit. I have EM links front and rear. The coilovers are nice and It will take time to dial them in perfect. I have base settings but ofcourse it will take time to tune them to the car and my liking. The coilovers actually just went in before the engine came out so I have zero run time on them. Hopefully it will be out on the streets this weekend!

For brakes, the stock system will work fine. You just need good pads such as the Hawk HP plus and a good fluid flush/bleed with a good fluid.

With almost any sanctioning body/ club you run with, the coil overs are going to put you into an prepared or modified class. If you are able to do it, it would be a benefit to go back to the transverse spring set up. It will be easier to tune for you.

I boiled my brake fluid several times before I found a brake fluid that could take the heat (Castrol SRF). That was back in the late '80s and I have stuck with it because I know it works.

There are cheaper alternatives now. Some people like Motul (it's MUCH cheaper) and Ford HD racing fluid. There are others.

My cars brakes were great at least I thought so till I upgraded to J55's and Carbotech AX6 pads. Now they are superior.

w/other about brake fluids and good pads. If you're autox'ing for points, then I also agree about the spring -go back to stock on the spring. If you're doing it for fun only who cares what class you're in, go haver fun, and compare your times w/other similar cars.

I know you were asking RP, but since I've had, tracked and auatox'ed both a C6 and a C4 I thought I'd say this:
On a TRACK, they're both equally fun to drive; the feeling is similar...but in the C6 you're going faster for the same "experience" or effort. A lot faster. I think most of it has to do w/the motor (100 more hp), but some of it is confidence; C6 provides a little more right up to the limit.

At auto x the C4 is better, hands down. I don't know why, but I go much faster, AND I have more fun at auto x w/my C4 than I ever could with my C6.

Cars:
Base '92 6 speed
Base '06 6 speed with Z51 suspension and PS2 tires.

If you saw his engine thread you would know about the monster he is about to unleash on the track!

He's talking about an AUTOX "track". Don't need monster brakes for autox no matter what you have for an engine. Good pads and fluid is plenty.
