Default What is the redline on a 1990 L98?

I just got a chance to stomp our new 1990 coupe hard today. The Tach shot all the way to 6000... wth
I thought these things rev limited at about 5000-5500?

My C5 will rev to 6500 all day long...

Believe it or not I think GM set the TPI rev limit at 10,000 knowing that the restrictive top end would limit the revs. I may be wrong but I think I read that somewhere

Ya, GM set the rev limit at 10000 for reasons only they know.

youre not making usable power over about 5000rpm give or take a couple hundred rpm. L98s make all their power down low.

What all those others said!

Also, there's a good chance the '90 tach is off a bit at the top end. It's common for this to happen. You may see 6000 on the needle, but it may be at 5200 or so.

yep..totally agree with Craig and the others on this one...

mine is no exception to the rule!

1990 corvette

What is says.....i floor it.....the tach needle pegs the mph plastic and stays there....well over that 6000 rpm spot lol

My idle says 1000....and I know that is off too..

On the highway with my 3:07 gears at 80mph it reads 3200.....so again...wrongo......lol

The remedy....so far nobody knows.....
i just have learned to live with it

Allmost every 90 model has a problem with it's tach reading too high. Mine said 6000 when it was really only at 4000. Imagine my surprise at the dragstrip the first time :rolleyes: I have not seen any remedy for this yet. I have went to an aftermarket tach on mine. If yours is an auto it should be fine though. If you dont plan on racing it I wouldnt worry too much about it.
