Want to upgrade gears and it seems the dana44 is way to go..

Does this unit come w the gears. I want something for a daily driver but do not want to go as high as 3.73s. Thoughts.. are 3.07s a noticable diffrrence from stock? Thanks

Stock gearing in the Dana 44 equipped cars was 3:45. At least this is true for the 6 speed cars, as they all came with the 44. I'm not positive, but I believe all the automatics, at least 92-96 got the Dana 36, but not sure what gearing was in those.

Thanks... id like to just swap the gears but after reading a lot of the threads on here.. it doesnt seem reccomended with the stock D36. My car is the stock 2.59s or whatever right now . So 3.07s not a good option? Im afraid to go mid 3s do to mpg concerns. I am not a rich man sadly.

I believe the 3:07 were the "performance" option offered on the automatic cars, I think you'll be fine with those gears. Again, I could be wrong, but this is how I understand it.

Thanks LT4. Appreciate the response. Do you know if they will fit into the stock D36 without having to change the punpkin?

I would think that since they were a factory option for that particular rear end, that they should fit just fine. But I would wait for some of the other guys to chime in. I'm only going off things I've read and heard on this forum over the years.

I ordered my '86 with automatic and D36 with 3.07 gears. I have heard that the D36 housing must be modified to fit in larger gears.

I have heard of people getting 27 or so MPG with the 2.59s. The best I have ever gotten was 22 MPG, but that was driving to Phoenix at the end of August when the temperature was over 100° and obviously the AC was on for the whole trip (...and I wasn't going slow).
