New AC compressor now I can't keep the windshield clean?
I've had two things done, a new windshield put in and I had to replace my ac compressor and have it recharged. Now I can't keep the inside of the windshield clean. It gets a film a very fine film and almost seems oily but not quite enough to convince me it's oil. Anybody else ever had this problem and what is the fix? I wonder if there is just some protective coating on the inside of the window and I just need to clean it really good with vinegar or some other solvent.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Could be that someone put armorall on the dash. Its known to evaporate and leave a film on the windshield.

I would think that the system would have been leak checked by the shop replacing the compressor and doing the recharge. Make sure the weep hole on the underside of the evaporator housing is open. Difficult to see, but if you feel around underneath the housing you will find it. Use a toothpick or other soft object to make sure it's not plugged up with crud. Otherwise, condensation can collect causing moisture to form on the windshield when the a/c is on.

I hope your passengers side floor board isn't wet as well. Sounds like you might have a heater core on it's way out. You haven't noticed a faint smell of anti-freeze? I know when ours was going out I couldn't keep the glass cleaned. :mad

Baking soda and water does a great job taking the film out. I had a film on my hardtop that came back every so often. The baking soda really cleans the glass.

The reason I don't believe it is the heater core is:
It takes almost a week for the film to come back after it's cleaned.
There is no sweet smell or smell of anti-freeze.
I haven't lost any antifreeze that I can tell.
Thanks for all the ideas.
I'll start checking.

I know the film you're describing. Takes several days to appear and you can actually smear it with your finger - its oily. Had this problem with my other car ('97 GTP) since it was new. Thought it was factory sealants, etc curing out (new car smell), but it finally disappeared when I bought the vette. Why? The vette quickly became my favorite time sink and I stopped the (almost) weekly Armorall treatments on the Pontiac interior... Did the dealership do any interior detailing?
