Had fun - Stock 95 w/auto tranny
Had a blast last night! I took my stock 95 w/3.07 gear and auto tranny to the drag strip. Other than all fluids changed, new belt, K&N Panel filter, Continental DW tires, KYB shocks its factory original. I removed the spare, floor mats, and had 3/8 tank of mobil 93oct.
My best ET also turned out to be my best match of the whole evening! It was up against a 2010 Challenger w/375HP & 6 speed manual. He had a K&N FiPK kit and the exhaust was louder than stock. I'm guessing it was just a aftercat kit.
The track was horrible. The only way I could launch w/o spinning was to roll the throttle to the floor over the first 5-10ft. Any more & it just spun and I slowed. (on the street I can just floor it w/o spinning at all)
Anyway on this run I just warmed the tires a little. He did a heafty burnout. We lined up, tree came down & I beat him off the light. He launched well & was re-gaining on me for a few moments. I was 1/2 a car length ahead when he shifted to 2nd. I started to pull on him & could see his bumper for the first 100ft or so. 1/2 track I was pulling about 1 full car length and couldn't see him anymore. Up top the vettes aerodynamics were paying off against the big fat Challenger. I crossed about 2 car lengths ahead of him and backed off.
Best fun I've had in a long time.
I've been DR for over 25 yrs... IMO if the track were stickier and the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Density_altitude was lower this 95 auto has a 13.3 @ 104 potential. Just thought I'd give you "stock w/auto tranny" guys a nice data point.

Yeah this one is a 1/2sec tree. I cut that one real close. But hey.. if you don't red light every once in a while your not trying hard enough.

I agree that those are solid numbers. Nicely done!
I also agree that a better DA would help a meaningful amount. 1900' wasn't helping anything.
Also, Challenger is proof of "today's cars"; it lost handily to you, with 75 extra hp; Why? 4100 lbs! The thing's a porker!
Cool story!

That is strong runs out of a auto/3.07 car!!
My 93 LT1 ZF6 ran a best of 13.38@105.
My last trip down in BAD DA air this year, I was pulling 1.9X 60' times with a stick shift. Launching at 5500, it stuck. I tried redline, it just spun. Trap speeds where only 103.
I was running 13.4X like it was my job. FYI, that was a full tank of gas for me and full of weight at 3300lbs. In fact other than some shock settings and air pressures, that is my auto-x setup. LOL. Same tires too, still 200TW on them however.
Good Job!!! Time for that fall air? I'm ready! Keep us updated. I don't think I've ever heard of a near bone stock auto LT1 running that good.

ET's are all in the launch.
All I've done to the 95 was regular maintenance. Cleaned the TB, MAF, made sure all the fluids were changed, fixed/tightened stuff, new tires, made sure no brakes were dragging, ect.. Its still on the original Opti, wires, and plugs.
Adding the K&N panel isn't really noticeable until your over 4500rpms or so. And at that its pretty subtle.. but it does seem to pull a little harder right before the shift. On the two 13.5x runs I made the coolant temp was 195-200. I'm thinking that with a cooler stat and a tune it might pick up another 15hp or so. I've got too many other projects though..

The challenger guy could drive. But it seems to me most "new car" guys can't drive. There was a C6 Z06 there. He kept spinning off the line and and missing shifts. I think he got into the 12s once. Dummy... if people would just understand it you can't just floor it. You have to be thoughtful and get to know the car (& track). Patience, understanding, and practice will go a long way.. in many ways in life.
And don't even get me started on the 5 or so BMW's that showed up 1hr before the track closed!! Let me put it this way.. I didn't see one of them make a clean pass. Not one. Talk about people who don't have a clue how to drive. (or even stage)

Truth be told.. I was a little worried. I saw him bust a 13.4 earlier in the evening. That is in part why I was focused on cutting a tight light. I knew he had the potential to show me taillights.

It is even worse with auto-x/road racing stuff. I see it all the time. Guy, shows up, first auto-x. Thinks his Z06 can beat everything. Needless to say he gets a schooling.
NEVER under estimate the "driver" mod. In fact, IMHO, its the most important one!!
You have a TON more seat time than I do. I got maybe 40+ 1/4 mile passes on the Corvette. I've learned a ton. Helps to stay humble and pay attention to the guys who seem to be going fast and know there stuff.
