Default 58" TB is better???

I dont know why everyone is telling me to go with a 52" i spoke to a god friend of mine who is an awesome mechanic and he told me that obviously it is better to go with a bigger throttle body it is more flow and you can never get enough of that. Well i'm goin with a 58" edelbrock TB and then i'm gonna port match the manifold myself. To get some major HP i'll tell you guys the results when i'm done.

58 MM TB is a waste of money on a bone stock engine. Even with the port-matching. With Cold Air Induction, and bigger exhaust, the 52 would be ok, and some even disagree with this, but 58 is not gonna help a stock motor.

IMO,the stock TB is fine...a 52MM you may not even see any gains.
A 52MM or 58MM is only good for larger cubic inch motors like a 383 SR or 383 LT1 or larger or highly modded 350's.
I think 2 people on here with modded LT1's or an LT4 reported no real gains with a larger TB.
Save your money for cam, heads, and exhaust first.

Bigger is better - if your motor needs it. If not, then you probably won't see any real gains until you are heavily modified.

Unless you're 383CI or larger it's totally unnecessary and I still think 58 is too big for that N/A. All you'll do is loose fine throttle resolution.

I'm running a open lid, K&N, stock throttle body, stock MAF, 30lb injectors and make 361RWHP. FWIW :chevy

Here is an engine with a 48mm Corvette TB, why don't you ask your friend about this:

These guys are all correct! A 58 is a waste of time and money unless you've got at least 383 ci, and highly modified or after market better breathing heads and modified exhaust. In the case of L-98's, you also need a better breathing plenum and runners. Save the $350 towards some other mods first! :yesnod:

awesome mechanic, maybe
knowledgable about Corvette engines and how to get the best performance, doubtful

A 52mm wont even help on a stock engine. 58mm is overkill. I may go with one of these after i get a 383 with Superram, but never before.

hell a bigger TB could kill your good idle on a stock engine

Lingenfelter says its worth some hp on a 383 motor but I doubt its more than 10 hp. You won't see any improvement on a stock 350. Keep in mind that it will change when the computer goes to fuel enrichment mode and there will be a lean spot when the throttle is opened quickly.

NASCAR is limited to a 390 cfm inlet restictor plate.
