Default Where to find a Starter Solenoid for 1991? Intermittent Starting Issues

I have had intermittent starting issues on the car. After the car not starting I tried tapping on the starter and it starts up, so it has got to be the solenoid. At this point rather than buying a new starter I just need the Starter Solenoid for the oem starter, but I cannot find this anywhere, anybody have a clue of the part number or where to get this?

Thanks

If the suggestion by antfarmer2 doesn't help, try RockAuto @ $13.23:

I tried the old-school technique of rotating the solenoid 180 degrees but still have the intermittent issue. So all you guys are thinking it's just the key, after I got it started by tapping on the starter?

IIRC if it is a key issue the starter wont do anything. Like someone asked above when it wont start does the starter click? If yes it is probably not a key issue.

Not suggesting your problem is just the key...... solenoid source is posted above - post #4. Just providing info in case you were going to buy a key blank.

Hey, I already looked into that part yesterday. It's not the solenoid, just the cap. I called corvettecentral and asked if they have a solenoid for a 1991 since the one they show for a C4 (Item# 303039) shows it's for a 1982-1987, they told me they don't have one for a 1991. the funny thing is I found the same one on ebay listed by corvettecentral for a 1982-1992 and its the same Item #, so I am going to call corvettecentral back when the techs get back from lunch. http://www.ebay.com/itm/371278554754?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Anywho, here is a video of one of the times it didn't start, hopefully you guys can make out if it is or isn't the key. By the way, when I get home from work I am borrowing a friends multimeter to test my key and order spares.

It's more than clicking not the key solenoid, bendix or fly wheel gear would be my guess maybe just a loose starter

The solenoid you've mentioned isn't correct for your '91 and CC can't likely help you. Your starter motor is a Nippondenso ('denso) and you likely need only a contact package and maybe do the plunger while you're there. There are numerous threads here on the CF. Buy local so you can match the parts. There are various length plungers. Do a search from here for "denso starter" of course less the quotes:

Actually using the quotes seems to help me bracket a specific phrase. In this case "denso starter" instead of finding every thread with starter and denso. Try it both ways.

That's why I mentioned dropping the "quotes" - give the OP some additional reading material maybe. ""s do various things depending upon the forum format. It creates some interesting scenarios for sure.

The one thing that does work very well here is do all of your C4 related searches from the "search this forum" tab above the THREADS/POSTS columns when starting from here:

So I don't think the intermittent starting issue is due to the starter, since it cranks but just doesn't get spark. I think it is either because of the MSD Ignition box or my D.U.I distributor. This is a 1991 manual with a miniram, cam, and other mods. Do you guys know anything about diagnosing these parts, or should I start a new thread?

Since this car has run previously and ran well (I'm assuming), I'd start a new thread with as much detailed information regarding the MODS, when done, miles driven since and how well it ran. Essentially you have a "cranks no start" issue that is a new situation on a car that in the past has run well? Cranks every time NOW?

You might want to mention if it has an after-market PROM, a piggy-back addition or what ever else you may have done with the ECM.
