Default 1996 Corvette Collectors Edition LT4 Engine Hub

Hi, I'm looking for a replacement hub for the harmonic balancer in the front of the engine for a 1996 Collectors Edition LT4.

I heard that there are some differences from the older years compared to 1996.

Are there any differences between a 1996 LT1 hub and a 1996 LT4 hub?

Are there any differences from Camaro/Firebird to the Corvette?

Does anyone know where I could get one?

While surfing CL, found a guy in Gastonia, NC selling corvette parts. This place is about 40 mins away from my home and he has another warehouse (20 mins away) with corvette parts as well. He says he part out about 1 or 2 Corvettes a week. He mostly have C4 car / parts available.

So a few days ago I stopped by just to see what he has to offer. He says he supplies hot rod shops with his Corvette front and rear suspensions.

I'm glad to have a place to go in case I need parts. Super nice guy to boot. You can call or text 704 689 7526.

the only difference I can think of is that the overall length of an 96 hub might be a smidge shorter to compensate for the thickness of the reluctor wheel that first appeared in 1996 to accommodate the first year OBII .

Correct, the 1996 hubs are .100" shorter to compensate for the reluctor ring.

I found this site https://www.nookandtranny.com/info_lt1.html that explains just about anything you want to know about the LT series engines. According to this the Corvette hubs are unique so you'll have to find one for a 96 LT1 or LT4 as a replacement.

Found a site that lists them but it's probably a crap shoot whether they actually stock them or not. You could give them a call.

I read your post wrong and thought you were looking for the balancer. It appears that the 1996 Corvette and 1996/1997 Camaro Firebird use the same hub for both balancers.

LT1 harmonic balancer p/n 10128489

LT4 harmonic balancer p/n 12551486

1996-1997 LT1/LT4 hub p/n 12550097

I see that this thread is a year old, but last summer I bought my first Corvette. It is a 96CE with the LT4. The guy I bought from said the engine has been rebuilt and had the documentation to go with it. Month and half after I bought it the harmonic balancer and hub came off. In short the treads had been stripped in the crankshaft and rethreaded to the next size larger bolt. The shop pressed the hub into place with RTV to hold the original sized bolt( the bigger bolt will not pass through the hub) and balancer in place. When the hub and balancer came off it damaged the hub pretty bad. GM parts direct says they have a hub. If it is not the right on I might be one the hunt for one myself. I was wondering what the outcome was by Daniel and to see if anyone has any experience GM parts direct?

So you've done what with the crankshaft snout for the bolt?

mtwoolford - I have a feeling that is going to be my only choice. GM parts direct basically just let me know that they can no longer get the stock hub. Any suggestions on who for an aftermarket hub? WVZR-1 - I have done nothing at this time. I did find what looks like a helicoil remains. So I think that someone attempted to fix it with a helicoil at one time. I'm still digging into this to find out my options. Worse case scenario (expense and time wise) is to remove the engine and replace the crankshaft.

there are plenty of new oem hubs available out there on ebay, etc...actually GM distributors are just about the WORST source of C4 parts...but I wouldn't use one; the reasons being:

the oem hub is not cut for a keyway and depends on the clamping force of the crankshaft snout bolt to keep the hub from rotating in relation to the crankshaft...which might be fine if everything was okay with your crankshaft ...but since it ain't;

using a key and hub cut for a keyway eliminates this; the key keeps the hub from wanting to shift on the crank snout. Now the only thing the crankshaft snout bolt has to do is prevent the hub from moving forward on the crankshaft snout; something that the bolt and threads in your buggered up crankshaft, can accomplish.
