Just as follow up.
Two weeks ago I began tearing the top end down. I didn't have to get very far, taking the runners off in fact, to realize there is massive chunks of piston within the system. The runners and upper intake have massive chunks of piston. I also noticed the cam was ******* off of the distributor gear.
Thats as far as I had to go to know that the motor is FUBAR. I appreciate everybody's input and help in this.

Ya it's disheartening. Put a TON of money into the car to make it driveable and fun. Had paint appointment lined up. C6 wheels and tires lined up. And a dyno session. This happened and I said screw it all.

Nope I have a guy coming to get it. He put a small down payment and I"m just waiting for him to come get it. I let it go CHEAP... like $1600.

You did the right thing, sometimes its better to cut your losses walk away du$t yourself off til the right opportunity comes along.
If only id taken what was a great offer on mine 15 yrs ago...probably have an almost paid for house by now
