Most full synthetic oils like Mobil-1 will easily go 6000 miles between changes. If the car isn't driven that much in one year, changing the oil once a year will work too.
Wix is certainly a good filter to use.

So, it uses its own internal algorithm for calculating when to activate the oil change light.
From the '96 owners manual
The monitor uses oil temperature and engine revolutions
to decide when the oil is nearly worn out. The light is
only a reminder, though
Your Corvette has an Oil Life Monitor. This feature will
let you know when to change your oil and filter -- usually
between 3,000 miles (5O00 km) and 7,500 miles
(12500 km) since your last oil change. Under severe
conditions, the indicator may come on before 3,000 miles
(5000 km). Never drive your vehicle more than
7,500 miles (12500 km) or 12 months (whichever
occurs first) without an oil change.
The system won’t detect dust in the oil. So, if you
drive in a dusty area, be sure to change your oil every
3,000 miles (5000 km) or sooner if the CHANGE OIL
light comes on. Remember to reset the monitor when the
oil has been changed.

IIRC, the FSM says to change the oil/filter 7500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first - this is for normal operating conditions (not the severe service schedule) and assuming you are using the recommended Mobil 1 5w30, which you are.
Wix filters are good.

Change your oil/filter now. The oil life monitor uses many factors, such as oil temperature, throttle position, RPMs, miles traveled, number of cold starts, number of hot starts, etc etc. It can't test the condition of the oil directly, but it does a good job of tracking variables that affect engine oil life.
