Default Brand New Brake Pads Cracked!

A few weeks I purchased a set of front and rear Carbotech 1521 brake pads with the pre bedding option from Amp'd Autosports. Today, during the installation, I noticed that the brake pad looked cracked pretty bad. This was cracked all the way around, so I fear that it might separate from the backing plate when braking. I inspected the other pads and 3 out 8 pads have the same problem.

I specifically go out of my way to get top of the line products and they always end up with some sort of defect. $311 brake pads shouldn't come cracked. This is ridiculous. I will be contacting Amp'd Autosports tomorrow.

What kind of rare earth mineral are they made from?

Wow. Junk. That's not cool. Hopefully just a isolated incident.

NO brake pads, unless Chinese garbage should arrive defective. Where is the quality control?

So now your car is down while you wait for replacements... lovely.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Daniel,
I don't think posting it on here first was wrong.....It's always a good idea to let people know immediately when there's something being sold that can cause them to be killed.....
Good for you Daniel for looking out for the forum members first......WW

Look at the top picture. The "scratch" goes up the side and to the top of the pad. Pretty much the corner of the pad.

So I emailed Adam from Amp'd Autosport. I told him to issue me a refund and a prepaid return shipping label, and without a fuss he did so promptly. My refund has been issued back through PayPal. I am waiting for PayPal to credit it back to my card. I am also awaiting a return shipping label to be sent from Carbotech. I was surprised that I received a refund without them first having the product returned. That is what I wanted but also did not expect to happen. So overall, I am satisfied with the customer service. Hopefully Carbotech will read this thread because this should have been caught before they sent them out.

Thank you Adam.

Those brake pads are scary! Good thing you saw the problem prior to having a failure on the road, or the track. That makes a good case for inspecting everything prior to installation.

Crazy! I guess thats why 'hawk' pads seem to be the pad of choi e around here

I stupidly ordered ebc greenstuff and they were garbage.
Terrible wear, brake fade out in a single stop and never really did stop well to begin with

Hawk seems like the only way to go

I ended up purchasing Wagner ThermoQuiet brake pads. I heard good reviews from them and I have used a lot of Wagner pads on customer cars over the passed years and never had a complaint. Just wasn't sure how they'd be for Corvette style stopping power. Turns out a lot of people like them.
