Default my c4 is making noise

I have a 1991 corvette and it's making a pinging noise like something came loose inside of it. And now when I put it in gear I have to rev the engine up to get it to move. Anyone have any idea what that could be. I recently put in a rebuilt trans with torque convertor in it.

Thanks

Maybe something came apart inside the torque converter. More likely, something like a clutch band has come apart inside the transmission and it's slipping a whole bunch. I would stop running it and get that trans and tc looked at. If you keep revving it to try to move it, you could cause more damage.

You know how the typical converter explanation goes like: You can face two fans together and turn one on and get the other to move? Well, forget that because there's three "fans" here. The third fan is the stator. You launch on that.

It's a steel clutch, sprag type. It sounds like it is dying and what is really bad about that is it generates debris and screws everything up in your controls.

You may be looking at another rebuild. Failed converters are bad business. I use CVC converters because the quality is high.

Many aftermarket converters are junk. They go down and take a million things with them.

IMVHO.

If there's a prayer to save it, don't drive it. Swap the converter now.

You may get lucky, or you may just trash another converter.

Again, IMVHO.

PS: A look at the pump and in the pan will tell you if it's salvageable.

FYI: A tipoff..

If you look into a new converter and its dry? It was never pressure or performance tested.

It was stuck together and sent to you.. HOPING it works.

Drop the trans pan and look for bits and pieces. If nothing obvious is found...

Open the filter and check for "interesting" stuff inside. This is what was in my filter after my new torque converter self destructed after 150 miles:
