What about later on if I want more? Would I regret spending the money to massage the heads today when I should be buying heads with more room to grow?

All depends on your goals, I have not touched my Motor in 8 years, have not even removed the valves covers.
If you want more later on, you could sell the Ported 113s and buy AFR heads (or something equivalent). And yes, you might regret spending more money later (but only if you are upgrading)

Therein is the issue. Can you resist the urge to add one more "while I am there item and NOT regret it? I currently regret not having lower compression and a stronger bottom end so I can throw in a blower. Had I paid a little more during the rebuild, I could have changed cam, added a blower and retuned and some sundry items. Now I have to wait till the block goes.

Been following this thread as I'm about ready to buy heads. I really don't have a problem spending 2K for a set of AFR 195's. But after watching the video in post #22 it really has me thinking. Really don't want to throw money in a set of new heads.

I think all the major brands offer them bare. It may end up costing more.

the 113 heads don't flow anybetter than any of the old double hump or fuelie heads. Vortec heads are the best heads chevy put out on stock autos. However, by the time you upgrade the three hundred dollar vortec heads, you will have enough money in them to have bought some really nice heads. My vortecs cost me 300 bucks out of the machaine shop, BeeHive springs and sCROPION ROLLER ROCKERS later, I now have almost a grand in them, throw in Elde. hi flow manifold and runners and a new fuel regulator, its almost another grand.Buy the AFR 195 heads like folks on here suggested.

I found that you have to figure out what your goals are and double it to have a better reading of where you will want to end up. Lol

Is everybody running their AFR straight out of the box? To bad that video didn't tell who made the heads they were using. Could just be cheap Chinese crap.
Anyone know what flows better AI 190cc heads or AFR 195 out of the box? I understand the room to grow ect. Just going to do heads and cam and hope to get a mid 11 sec street car. Just don't have the same want's and needs as when I was younger.

Maybe, maybe not. However, the question is when the motor has an issue and you have to rebuild, I know I am pissed because I thought like you and decided to restrict myself in the block to have high compression and not as stout as I would like if I had a blower.

Everybody has different goals. At 54 I know what I'm looking to do. I understand what you are saying. I went through that with my 02 Mustang GT I sold. Forged bottom end, ProCharger ect. Decided to go a different rout.
Fun car but it sucked as when someone wanted to screw with you, as soon as you got on it and they heard the BOV most of the time they just backed away.
If I ever did a blower again it would have to be a twin screw. To bad they don't make a KenneBell for these cars.
I'm just really trying to find out what head is better out of the box. I'm even considering you're favorites from LE. As they are not the Twisted Wedge and are completely reworked. He assures me their will be no issues.

The bottom end isn't going to last forever and when you rebuild, I'd get a 383 since it won't cost much more. Might as well get the Eads that will have romantic to grow as opposed to what is currently needed.
