Default ECU Bracket (10143544) Seal question

G'Day all,

I'm in the process of replacing the brake booster on my base '94 Corvette. I just removed the booster. Along with it came the ECU bracket, which is mounted between the booster and the firewall.

There is a thin gasket between the ECU bracket and the firewall. It is obviously not the original gasket ... it has the wrong shape and incorrect location for the holes. Someone put it in there previously, as there are clear signs that the booster has already been replaced at least once. It might have been "close enough" for them. It's not close enough for me.

I searched for quite a while, but the only thing I can find is the bracket listed for sale "with seal". It does not describe the seal. Does anyone know what type of material should be used there?

The seal I believe carried a separate part # and was selective to year. '90 - '94 would have been a GM# 14089147 so if someone had a parts car they could maybe better ID the part. It needs to be off of an L98 or LT1 car, '95+ is different.

I don't believe the mating surface of the booster to the ECM bracket is smooth, if it were with todays materials I might be inclined to use RTV. It's essentially just a round gasket and maybe keep in mind that it's not in a "weather-proof" environment, material thickness I would think needs to be minimal so as not to act as a cushion.

The part you are referring to goes on the firewall side of the booster. That's not what I'm referring to. I have a new one of those that came with the new brake booster.

Here is what I have ... in order:

brake booster unit
Booster output seal -- your seal
ECU bracket
ECU bracket seal -- my seal
firewall

Here's the diagram from the service manual.

10097675 GM then is the gasket that would have also been serviced with the ECM bracket you part #'d. It would go against the dash and I believe I'd have no problem with an RTV of sorts there.

*** If this were a "current production part" it would have the "sealant product" already applied to the part. I certainly doubt a serviced part at all.

Job is done ... nice to have brakes again. I think you're right ... the part would have had something applied to it. I decided to buy some heavy-gauge clear vinyl, cut it to fit, and glue it to the ECM braket. I like RTV, but not here. Since these boosters have a bad rap, I don't want to have to remove the RTV the next time I do it.

I also discovered something scary at the brake pedal. I removed the clip that holds the booster rod onto the brake pedal, only to find there was no washer. The previous "mechanic" put a foam washer in there instead. It was a section of pipe foam ... O.M.G. It's now back the way it should be, and I suddenly feel a lot safer.

Thanks for your input.
