This morning, my 1993 c4 wouldn't start. She's been running smooth as of late, however, last week my FOB fell off my keychain and I've been using my key for entry. I'm wondering, could the missing FOB be preventing ignition for security? The locking function has been pretty strange without the FOB. Twice now, I've gone to unlock my door only to find that it's already unlocked. I'm certain the car was locked both times. I've also heard the horn chirp when I walk away as if the FOB went out of range and the security system kicked on.

My first thought was that it could be my battery. It definitely hasn't been replaced since I purchased a year ago and I don't know how long it sat in the lot. My panel lights up when I turn the key but no relay.

I also know solenoid is a common issue with these.

Just exploring this potential missing FOB issue before I replace battery.

Do you hear the pump run for two seconds? If not clean the chip on your key or try the other key wait four minutes between keys. Are you sure the missing fob is not in one of your pockets.

The car SHOULD function just fine without the FOB. I NEVER use my FOB.

Make sure your chipped ignition key is clean. It has to read the resistor to start the engine.

Note what the security light is doing when you enter the car. It should be flashing after you unlock and open the door. If it is solid, you have an issue. The only time mine has been solid is door open you hit the lock button and it goes solid till you close the door.

Has the alarm ever gone off when entering?
