I believe that the C4 wheel uses 5/16-18 - I seem to recall someone arguing some Metric spec but I'm pretty sure the 5/16-18 is correct. Try them before you start and "force nothing". 4" long maybe. Post back the size you actually use so if someone stumbles across the thread needing later.
I've done a couple in the past that actually just needed a "jerk".
What does the car do? There's considerable aggravation for a novice in the column if there's no need to go there to start.

I've been driving during daylight only and using my arm to signal right-hand turns

Took mine off my 94 a couple of months ago, it just pulled off, no need for a puller, my advice would be try it first before spending money on a tool you dont need.

I haven't used a puller in years now. Using a brass rod turned down to about a little less than 1/2" on one end, I use it as a punch. I put the steering wheel nut on a few threads to prevent the rod from slipping off center, put the end of the brass rod in the center of the steering shaft, have one person sit in the driver's seat pulling hard on the steering wheel and slightly rocking it from side to side while the other person gives the brass rod a hard whack with a hammer. You can lube the connection beforehand with PB Blaster or similar like ChrisWhewell mentioned as it can only help. The nut on the end of the steering shaft a few threads will also keep the wheel from flying off into someone's face when it breaks free.
Ever since someone showed me this trick, it has worked every time. BTW, don't forget to mark the alignment of the steering wheel on the shaft before removal. Easy to forget so that you can reinstall it exactly as removed. Good luck.
