Default Th400 to 700r4 tailhousing

I've searched quite a bit, maybe Ive been using the wrong words..but why hasn't anyone designed a simple spacer to make the 2 bolt together like a 350 trans to a 700/4l60 tailhousing? I feel like it can't be that difficult. Any input guys? Thanks in advance

Try "Advanced Adapters". I got 1 to adapt a 4l60e, in place of a 700r4. It wasn't cheap though. I think around $400. h

Yeah I've searched all over that site and couldn't find anything to make a 400 trans bolt up to a c4 700/4l60 tailhousing. I found something that may work on PATC's website but I believe I found it a long time ago and asked and they don't carry it anymore..I plan on finding out later. It was actually for a 4l80 to a 700/4l60 tailhousing but a 4l80 has the same bolt pattern for the tailhousing as the 400 does so it would work if they still have it.

You'll need to use a 700r4 tailshaft

I guess when I get home I need to see what pattern my tailhousing is to make sure it will work. I believe the tailhousing I bought was a 4l60 tailhousing. It has the large hole on the side for vss. I'll figure out which style it is later.

Why would you need an adapter to switch out a 700r4 to a 4l60e? It's a bolt in.

Likely to use the -e 2-piece case construction of the later production & the 4 bolt extension.

I looked at that adapter and read the description...it looks like it says it's for an early 700/4l60 to bolt the tailhousing of an LS 4l60 to it. I need to find a way to adapt a 400 to a c4 tailhousing. Advanced adapters sells a $50 adapter for a long tail 350 to bolt up to a c4 700/4l60 tailhousing. I just need the same but for a 400

That adapter is for a 2-piece case (separate converter/bell housing) to an earlier 4 bolt extension of the 1-piece case. To use it requires various pieces and combinations. There was an outfit that did a 6 - bolt C-beam extension (they said) with VSS provisions and when the $$'s were put "on they table" they couldn't ship.

It was aggravating as hell for many weeks.

You asked why hasn't - well even the 4L80E output & C-beam extension wasn't popular enough to keep the fabricator producing the parts. Lots of R&D $$'s wasted likely. That's the why NOT.

Try the transmission center for a C480 from this link maybe 3/4 way down page:

http://www.the-transmission-center.com/

If link doesn't work #C480 maybe from their main page.

Yeah I looked into that but I don't really want a 4l80. They're heavy and rob a good chunk of power. Overdrive would be nice if I was wanting to build a cruiser but I'm not so it doesn't really do much for me.

http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/50-8506-adapter-to-replace-gm-700r4-with-gm-2wd-th350/

I'm looking for something more like this but for a 400 to 700r/4l60e tailhousing but I'm finding nothing. A 350 would work for a while but when I boost my car a 350 will get expensive compared to a 400 and still won't be as reliable.

Lol yeah I wish. I'm trying to build a 9 second n/a car on a budget. Lol sounds weird when it's put that way. Car is already gonna be in the 2700 lb range and I have a lot more weight to strip.
