You didn't indicate your use goals, but assuming stock replacement type and budget would support:

Actually a slight upgrade from the stock shortblock. You'd have to add cam, lifters, and all the retaining stuff; pushrods, oil pan, front cover. And whatever else you can't locate that you'd need to get it running.

More complete:

Would require a different TPI base. A better cam would be nice, and probably better valve springs.

Another option, more money:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/na...2532/overview/

More complete, better heads, more power. Has stuff you won't use/need to switch. If you stay with TPI, you'd need a Vortec base, probably bigger injectors, ECM tuning.

There are literally hundreds of options. You need to decide on your goals, budget, etc.

so after searching thru the parts archive we found a 417 sbc that was in an 87 vette, with an accel ram intake and the biggest solid cam he could fit in there, i think it will make a good base to start from,; after talking to Skip White racing in Tenn. is going to be a toss in the hat for either the 406-8 or the 422-27 cu short block, yeah i know and was lectured about the factory 400 block, well we aint going to commute in this rod, its being built to burn tires and ricers...but im still looking for other suppliers of these stroker kits...any help is welcome..thanks
