Default Passenger seat recliner motor ?

So the recline function in the passenger seat of my 1988 C4 does not work. All the other functions do but that one.

Can anyone tell me where that motor is located and how big a deal it is to replace ? Any tricks for fixing or testing the old one ??

Thanks

Can get a rebuilt seat track or just the transmission from $120 to $200.

OK so the recliner motor is part of the seat track ? Seems a shame to replace a track that everything else works on. I have seen recliner motors on Ebay for $45 up to $120

While I have read here that the seat track is not user serviceable, the recliner motor seems to just have a couple of bolts and a piston / actuator arm.

Big Bird. Do you have power going to the switch? You will need to pull the seat cushion up to check. Those switches can go bad.

BB, are you talking about the switch on the seat (Sport Seat) or in the center console?

motor is under the seat cushion.. It is possible you have a bad switch so I would look into that too..

once you pull the lower cushion you should see the motor and gauge the difficulty..

there is a wire clip in the center of the front of the seat the hooks around the bottom shell, a little pressure/weight on the cushion and the wire clip should move back to free the cushion for removal

Thanks for the responses guys. Sport seats. Yes I guess it could be the switch too. I'll pull the cushion in the AM and see what I have.

If the switch is OK.....and there is noise when you activate the switch, the problem would be in the seat transmission, not the track itself. You can get a rebuilt transmission.

OP - Do you actually have the FSM for this car yet? There's a good bit of misinformation in this post and it would certainly be in your best interest to check the FSM for operation for "your car"!!

The recline function is cable driven by a motor to a gear nut assembly. Lot's more to it other than just switch & motor!!

Motor is #29, cable #28 and the gearnut #23

Yes I actually have all the FSMs for that year car, but they are difficult to search and read.

I thought putting content on a forum was a good thing.

Seat transmission has nothing to do with the recline function

You're right. I should have looked at the model year in the original post.
