Default Speaker question

Just getting ready to change the stereo and speakers in my 84. Is it better to modify the BOSE box or remove it and leave it open?

I ditched the Bose. Rewired the thing for new wires, bought speaker holders for standard speakers and installed the speakers for a non-Bose unit.

Keep the wiring intact just in case you need to switch back or get a "sys" light like some do. If that happens we can address it. If yours is like mine and didn't get it, be happy.

The Bose speaker enclosures are well designed. I found some Kenwood speakers that fit the Bose enclosures in my '84. I was impressed how good the system sounded, even though the speakers are relatively small!

I tried using the Bose speakers, connected directly to my Panasonic stereo unit. They sounded good, but the extremely low impedence of the Bose speakers overheated the output amps in the Panasonic unit.

The Bose amps are difficult to remove. I just disconnected them, and left them in place.

That should give you some room so you aren't stuck with round speakers.
