coolant hose heat valve
1994 C4 heater control vale,looks like a fuel filter,mine has been replaced with straight tru connector.What does the factory part do? is it OK to leave as is? Doing complete coolant change,new hoses, knock sensors,themostat,coolant,40%glycol/60%water car not to be used when cold outside kept in warm garage,never below 45.All hoses look original,also deleteing throttle body hoses with 1995 upper radiator hose and heater hose tee change to staight tru coupling any advice would be apreciated.Any problems with update from other people that have done this? If so, it is a coolant flow restrictor, I think to stop too much pressure from getting to the heater core. They can get clogged up. Pull it out and clean any crap from the inside.

with 92ragtop...it is a restriction to the flow to the heater core. Since your has been replaced with a straight thru pipe, suggest you get the real thing. They run about $10.00.

I dont know how this would reduce pressure, the whole system is set at 15/16 lbs.I think it is to slow down the flow rate,is this true?Does it have to be in place for any other reason?Like to have more flow thru engine untill thermostat opens?

I've seen it mentioned that it's function was to keep coolant in the "engine coolant loop" and not restrict pressure. The LT1 engine in other bodied cars used a different valve than the Corvette. Was it maybe because their coolant system was a better performer? Who knows.
The Corvette valve GM# 10157988 - the rest of the applications with an LT1 used a GM# 10188036. If you GOOGLE the 10188036 there may still be some images of a "dissection" of one. The Corvette is likely a weaker/stronger spring - larger/smaller orifice in the disc. I'd buy a correct one if you're going to the effort you mentioned.

It does not restrict pressure. I may be wrong on the hose size, think it is 3/4" or 5/8". This valve restricts the opening down to about 3/8".

I believe that this restricter is located in the heater hose that comes from the lower water pump fitting and goes to the heater core.Is this correct? i/e water goes from pump to heater core than from heater core to reserve tank than from tank to upper water pump fitting.Is this correct? Just did a complete flush including kn sensors and all new hoses and got confused on hose routeing please help,Thanks Peter,I will install new restricter in right direction if this is true

Not sure why it was replaced with an open section but I feel confident that you should have one of these on your car, and functioning. For $10 it is a no-brainer to protect your heater core.

Here is '93 & '94 routing. Missing is the hose that runs core to reservoir as that's considered a component of the radiator hose primary cooling loop.

After studying this and other forums I believe its purpose is to get maximum engine loop,with c4 high coolant temps heater works good with less coolant flow, not to protect heater from high pressure or flow. thanks for everybodys help.
