People got to try all the placebos, snake oils, whiffle dust, mouse milk, etc. There is no real "mechanic in a can" that will go in and magically fix everything for you. If you want to clean something, take it apart and clean it so you KNOW it is clean.

Someone please give me the stupid/lucky idiot award. I opened up the fuel tank, stuck a flashlight down in it, BAM!!!! Bone dry! I'm feeling really dumb right now. Going to clean the tank and put everything back together. I should have known better. It was too good to be true to buy this car with a full tank.

LMAO...I can't believe it myself.......I'm still moving forward with the fuel filter change. I just put two gallons of fuel in her and she fired right up without any fuss.

Its empty! Nows the time to pull the pump and wipe the tank dry.
Swap in a fresh filter and all the other fuel stuff everyones been pointing you towards.
You might as well start off with a clean system rather than go thru this s**t all over again....

So one issue resolved and a new one pops up. So my tank level bars on the digital read out say my tank is almost full. But the Range says I have 65 miles of fuel in the tank. Something screwy with the sending unit?

Maybe...maybe not. The range is a function of gallons in the tank as monitored by the float/sending unit...and your average mpg. If you have 20 gal aboard (full tank) and you're averaging 20 mpg...your range is 400 miles. If you have 20 gal aboard and you're average mpg is 10, then your calc'ed range is going to show 200.

Your current average mpg is probably pretty horrible right now (based on the car's recent driving), so 65 mi range on a nearly full tank is possible.

What is more important is this; the gauge reads "almost full"....is the tank really almost full?

Well then, there is a problem w/the sending unit, or the connections/harness between the sending unit and the gauge. My bet would be on a corroded rheostat in the sending unit.

I looked at your gauge in the vid. It's whack if empty. May I please be so bold as to suggest that you change the oil before another jubilant start? We are cringing at the thought of whipping a sick pony.

It's your car, but there is some prudent advice in this discussion. I love hearing your story but after that fan switch.... you have some pre-flight checks that need attention.

On tomorrow's agenda. No more chances. This last scare taught me a lesson.

If I'm not mistaken, somewhere on this site is a walk through on how to clean or repair a C4 sending unit ..You may want to give that a try before buying a new one......WW

Here is a video on the subject..

Hahahaha, Actually the tank was pretty clean. I taped a rag onto the end of a stick and slopped it around. I then fished down a shopvac hose. Over all the tank looked pretty good.

I got your PM this morning. I was on a job site but i'll shoot you a call later. Thanks for all the advice! All you guys are great.

And Ron Jeremy also endorses stuff that makes a guy bigger, last longer, shoot more times, etc. Not sure I believe that either.

Let's go with that. Say it reads full when it is empty. How does the range meter get it's numbers?
