Default 1984 corvette rough ideal / shut off at start

Hi guys I have a 1984 corvette that I just bought a few months ago. Every once and a while when i start it up it will idel rough and sometimes shut off. Earlyer today i started it once and it did this and i could hardly get the car started again i think it is a fuel system problem. Anyone have any idea on what is causing this? Thanks.

Was it flooded? Does it start more quickly if you got to WOT during cranking?

If it starts more quickly when the symptom is occurring using WOT, that is evidence that it has flooded.

If not, then the evidence is more likely that it's starving for fuel -a pressure test would help you see that. Factory spec is 9-13 PSI...they seem to "like" the 13 end of that range a lot better than the 9 end.

Ok thanks. I will have to look into it a little more i dont think it was flooded i think it probbly does have low fuel pressure but this only has occured right after a start up i backed up 10 feet and it ideled low and shut off took a while to start again and had to rev it a little to keep it going then it made it home fine

Had a similar issue with my '84. Problem was the front coolant sensor failed causing the engine to flood because the ECU thought it was very cold outside.

Did it just happen at start up?

On cold starts it would idle erratically, might or might not stall.

On hot starts the engine would idle very high trying to handle the extra fuel and again would stall and would not restart until the engine cooled down.

The original style front coolant sensor is a known weak link. Mine was totally corroded. I driven about a 1000 miles since replacing mine a couple months ago without issue.

Not saying that is your issue but something to check along with the other 20 or so items that could cause a rough idle and stalling.
