Default Transmission swap 1986 to 1993 700r4

I have a 1993 lt1 that needs a transmission and I found a 700r4 from an 86 vette. Could I swap them?

Does your '93 have a TV Cable ? If so , I can see no reason why it would not work .

thanks. I couldn't find if the 1993 was a 700r4 or the 4l60E or if there was a real difference. This will save me lots of money thanks.

I'm going to say you need to look much deeper into this. I didn't look at the wiring internally so the "COULD I?" should be answered with a maybe BUT the '86 doesn't have the AUX valve body unless it's a service transmission so you loose I'd think.

Your intention is to use the '86 "as is"? I believe you've got to do some wiring to be able to use. I'm not a trans guy but I'm quite sure there is issues.

Why do you NOT WANT TO fix/repair/rebuild your correct 4L60?

the current transmission may need a complete rebuild but I do have access to a transmission from an 86. That's why I ask. I can't even find anything telling me if its a 700r4 or a 4l60 currently in the 1993

The 700r4 and 4L60 are the same transmission. GM changed the way the designation works to make it more uniform. 4 is for 4 forward gears (1 - 2 - 3 - OD). I don't know what the L is for. The 60 is the relative strength of the trans. Higher numbers are stronger.

The transmission was redesigned in 1987 with a new auxiliary valve body. It makes the shift into Drive from Neutral smoother. There is also a new pump to supply pressure to the valve body.

L - Longitudinal mounted RWD primary drive etc

T - Transverse mounted in that location of the transmission model number (ex - 4T60 was prior to '90 I believe a 440-T4) FWD primary
