Default 1984 corvette carb swap but keep stock hood

I have a 84 corvette that already has a carb on it and the hood will not shut! I want to put a lowrise intake and carb to fit under the hood im told that a torker 2 #5001 intake and a edelbrock 600 cfm carb #1406 with a drop base air cleaner will fit. Witch air cleaner will work? The motor has edelbrock 6089 performer rpm heads mild cam over 300hp ill get more details on the motor specs Thanks

I'd suggest pulling the carb off and getting a measuremento f how much room you have between the carb base and the hood with the hood closed (some combination of 2 X 4's, plywood, and some modeling clay should be adequate to get that info(.

Measure your carb height - then check the Edelbrock website for the "height" of the various intakes - the Torquer II is one of the "lowest" manifolds they make.

Once you have those three pieces of data - you should be able to calculate what air filter will fit - there are some with "drop base" air filters which help with clearance problems. Bottom line - there are a number of 350 SBC's with Holley carbs sitting under stock C4 hoods our there - it is doable with the right components....

I bought my 84 from the previous owner who put a carb on, the part that the nut goes on for the air filter was too long, of course he dropped the hood on it and it went right through the hood I'd do it right from the beginning and go low clearance with everything, the biggest air filter I could run can only be 2 inches. I used a piece of clay and sat it on the highest point of the carb, closed the hood and it pressed the clay down to the max amount of height I could run for the air cleaner.

I think your best bet is a stock aluminum intake manifold of 1980 - 1985 vintage; I use one on a 1975 V8 Monza which aren't known for a lot of hood clearance, especially with a stock (tall) air cleaner...but hey it works well...and with a fairly hot engine, i.e. long duration cam, 10:1 compression, and with a restrictive stock exhaust. It requires using a quadrajet 4 bbl carb; I use two, a 650 cfm "mini" quad for emissions testing (passes without problem) and an 850 cfm "fun" quad. This is a low rise intake and I believe that any aftermarket intake will be taller, it's just a question of how much taller.
