Sorry for not keeping everyone updated lately. So we got the car all together for the Daytona race in April, good at we're the good news ends. So after a couple laps under speed the car locked up going into turn 2. It EAA hard to tell if it was the 4+3 or the motor.
After getting back to the pits and doing a compression test we had one low cylinder, we're we're done, a couple laps into a 14hr race.
We got the car back to the shop the next week we started tear down. Spun rod bearing on the #1 rod. That and metal everywhere in the motor... she's trash. Time to build a new motor...
So journey had begun to build a new motor. As soon as I ordered a new short block I found out that I was assigned to a project out of town and I was going to have to work on the car on the weekends I come home.

Thanks for the detailed fab pics. I've been wanting to build a simple hoop for my car.

I have a question regarding the tow hook.
In my 96 there is a hole already in the bumper.
Can I weld a female connector welded to that front bumper cross-member? In any case, I'd need to call a tow truck remove the front cover, screw a tow hook (like the ones for the C7) and done and easier for everybody.

I don't know what the structure looks like that you're thinking about attaching to, but I have a suggestion anyway.
Rather than just a female threaded boss welded to the front face your member, bolt thru the member and a use a big washer or welded threaded pad of some sort to distribute the load. This attachment might see forces several times the weight of your car. Better to put the the critical weld in compression on the back of the member where it would have to pull thru the frame material than in tension on the front of the member.

For our tow hook we removed the factory bumper support and built one our of steel tubing and attached to the mounting points used by the factory for their plastic filler piece. The problem is it bolted to the face of the frame horns and they are capped with some lighter gauge metal. When the tow-truck pulled us into the pits they bent the factory plate on the end of the frame, so we had to reinforce afterwards.

So we also installed the FAST EZ-EFI 2.0 on our new re-built motor. d This was a worm hole that is not for the faint of heart. We bought the Fuel Injection system (to plug into the L98/TPI). After that we realized we should have the FAST Distributer, then to run that you need to have a MSD box, oh ya for that to work you also need to buy a new coil. So needless to say this little project snowballed.
When we laid it all out we realized that a lot of the connectors on the harness were not the same and needed to be either swapped or new sensors installed. So for someone looking to do the same we needed to do the following:
Replace the IAT Sensor (this is in the plenum of the TPI and is the same sensor as water temp sensor)
New adapters for the injectors (I actually replaced one plug instead of using an adapter because of clearance.
New adapter for the TPS (they have wrong plug but I found an adapter on Amazon)
New MAP sensor – need to be a 1 Bar, and also had to get new pigtail to wire it properly
New pigtail for IAC because I could not find the correct adapter anywhere.
After all of that she fires right up and runs like it used to with the factory system but it now learns and will allow for mods without burning a chip.

This past weekend this car raced with the ChampCar Endurance Series at Sebring in two seven hour races. Fast time of the day for this car was 2:40 on both days. If you follow ChampCar Endurance Series on Facebook there were a couple pics of it in their feed. The car # is 486 and the team name is ZR None.

That would be awesome! Keep us posted. ChampCar lowered the point value on C4 for 2019 so you can add a few things and not take penalty laps. The BMW E30 and E36 platforms make up large portions of the field, while GM cars are few and far between.

For those road-racing their C4s, a useful "discovery" is that Strano has an adapter kit designed for 4th-gen F-bodies that allows the use of the SKF X-tracker front bearing. This definitely works on later C4 (88-96, I think). I'm not sure what the differences on the early C4s would be, though. I started a thread on it a little while back. For the rear wheel bearings, the hot ticket is the Wheel Bearings Inc. "HD" part, which uses tapered rollers in place of the ball bearings.
