AFR heads and self aligning roller rockers
I was told that the Scorpion narrow body self aligning 1.6 ratio roller rockers would not work on AFR heads. That the AFR heads need non self aligning rockers. True story? If that's the case, which heads would work? I was looking at the AFR 180's for my 1989. I have a Lingenfelter 74211 cam, Edlebrock 3860 manifold, ASM runners to hopefully go with some "new" heads.
Thanks, Went (Terry)

So I called AFR and their heads only work work non self aligning roller rockers. So I either sell my brand new Scorpions self aligning roller rockers and buy some non self aligning or look at compatible heads. Got my cart before the horse.

Ahhh...I'll just sell my new Scorpion roller rockers. Really want a new set of AFR heads.

You want to run self aligning rockers or guide plates... not both. That could create binding. Also AFR heads have 8mm valve stems instead of the conventional 5/16" valve stems. So the self aligning rockers would be loose on the valve if you tried to run them without the guide plates. I would sell your rockers, and get the non self aligning. Your used rockers would probably worth a bit towards new rockers.

I used some SA rockers on my 128 heads for a bit and when did I just took off the guideplates and used washers instead. I'd deff use something under the stud to not damage the alum head surface. Get some grade 8 or harden washer or just cut the pushrods slots off your guideplates.
edit: well to spread any deflection load of the stud and also to keep the stud height the same.

I bought some self aligning comp cams rollers and then realized I couldn't use them. I'm tempted to grind the alignment tabs off but it's a lot of work.

The guide ears/wings on the rocker hang down too far and hit the valve locks. I went thru this deal on the first LTX I built using the 8mm valve stem AFR's.

I was thinking the stock valve stems were 5/16, but your right they are 11/32. I don't deal with stock heads very often. All the SBC and SBF AFR heads use LS 8mm valve stems. I'm a AFR dealer
