Pre cats on 86 ?

Pre cats on 86 ?
Guys I'm not sure but are there pre cats on my 86 ? Just off the manifold pipes on both sides there are small cat shapped tubes welded in the pipes. If these are can they cause problems like the main cat? Just asking, she runs very well for having stock exhaust............. Thanks :confused:

I am also interested in finding out i have an 85 and i thought i had a clogged cat, so i checked my main cat, oops someone already gutted it :eek: So id like to know the same question. I personally would guess no we dont have pre-cats, but i dunno.

The 86 has pre-cats and the 85 doesnt. For the 86 you can buy a cat-less front Y pipe or you can just have a shop cut the pre-cats off and weld in pipes (what I had done). 85 vettes obviously dont have that problem.

Yes you have a precat on each side of the Y-pipe leading into a main cat.
Best replacement is longtube headers, good for 15hp on an L98.
