You received just a wrong tooth count that actually fits the VSS - OR DID YOU - receive a 43 tooth gear with a "stem on it for a cable drive"?

I would think that by now with nearly NONE of the VSS driven gears being available it's much easier and likely less expensive to use a DRA to accomplish the speedometer correction. I've done mechanical corrections for years and a DRA was a last resort. I'm out of NOS early VSS and I've got maybe 5 NOS gears but NOT a 43 tooth that I believe should be purple.

Depending on where you're located you could visit some older transmission shops and ask! I know a shop that actually specialized in speedometer correction and they usually had a couple dozen "on the shelf". He's long time passed!

DRA and if this is a C4 you would use it with what's already there and resell the parts you bought!

Digital Ratio Adapter - The one most often mentioned here on the CF is a Dakota Digital. It has the more attractive pricing.

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd126.htm

I had always avoided DD because years ago many had issues with the SLP - Firehawks etc with them.

I have used Abbott in the past but they're priced quite high today. They use ERA terminology. This is a link to their product and support page.

You might try Performance Automatic Transmission Center: https://transmissioncenter.net/home/
I installed a 3.54 gear in my 93 with the 700R4, and they had the Drive and Driven Gears that were needed. I hope this helps.

With the Speedometer Calibrator you do not need the purple gear in order have an accurate speedometer with the 3.54 gears. You use whatever gear you have and the calibrator will compensate for the 3.54 gears.

Contact your local Chevrolet Parts Depart. and ask them to check the Chevrolet Vintage Parts database for both the Corvette and the Caprice. As with any hard to find part, be prepared to pay a lot of money if it is in the Vintage Parts database.

The electrical connector '90 and earlier is center of, '91+ it's on the outer diameter, there's an offset to accommodate driven gear diameters that are different for gears less than 40 tooth count and 40+ tooth count. There's offsets for both center and outer diameter connector VSS.

You had all of the correct numbers with your original post 15 drive - 43 driven. That's the only combination that will do the 3.54 with a 275 tire. Many others will make the NEEDLE move but not correctly.

Here's one that is generally accepted as correct but I do believe that there's errors. I don't recall the errors right now but I did note a few many years ago. The VSS mentioned for '91,'92 & '93 A4 with a 40+ tooth count needs to be ignored for sure.

Do you have a specific question?

http://garage.grumpysperformance.com...-adapter.1237/

From that link there's also KHasting's calculator - for the 3.54 ignore the VSS reference - your choice will work

if you use 25.68 (315/35 advertised generally) as a tire diameter then some/most very reliable calculators will actually mention 42 as correct. Even using a 25.55 (275/40 advertised generally) the calculator I sometimes use still mentions 42

What is your tire size? You actually need to use "rolling tire radius" for calculations but close is close.

If I had 15 & 42 I'd use them.

Is the 3.54 already done? If yes install what you've got tomorrow and go for a ride with a GPS - post back tomorrow evening with comparisons.
