Can vary a whole lot youll have to get local quotes
out here they wont touch any R and R (on an lsx truck very easy job) for less than 1500-2k labor only for a shop that is half way competent place. May be less where you are

Gone are the days of 3-500.

Good time to own a shop 100/hr and on up.

I got quote $2000 for just pulling the heads and replacing gaskets and MORE if the heads needed work. That was figuring some 7 hours labor AND from a trustworthy guy I've known for some time. The questions you might consider:

Are you just having them pull it?
Are you having them pull it AND fix it?
What is the cost of a engine hoist and your time if you have the place and tools?

There are lots more of course, but what are your plans?

I got a quote from the local Chevrolet dealer just to remove and replace the engine in a 1984 C-4 for $1050.00. That was replacing the motor with a complete replacement ready to set in.

Shop manuals are about $50, engine hoist rental for about $75 and you will need about $100 for beer and pizzas for your friends.

I am putting a new engine in a 94 LT1.
I would charge 6 Billion dollars for this pain in the royal **** job.
Changed alot of C2 and C3 engines in my day but this C4 is a nightmare.
