LT4 starter an upgrade for the L98?
I have an 89 and the starter died. Is it worth upgrading to the LT4 starter? It looks similar except for the power terminal locations. Is the LT4 starter more powerful? Thanks

Just get yourself a plug and play starter to fit your 89.
IF there is any torque advantage to the 94 it will be offset by the frustration you feel trying to mess with different terminal locations.

Nothing at all wrong with the '89 starter design. Purchase an AC Delco "Professional Grade" replacement starter; it will fit right in and you don't have to mess with any changes to wiring.

OP - If you knew that your '89 was an original then I believe you do nothing other than consider the repair of "what you've got"! If yours is only the typical contact/plunger issue then it's a very inexpensive DIY repair. If it's already a reman then it's maybe a coin toss as to what's next. Is yours OE? How many miles? To ID as OE you need to remove and check for labels.
If the LT4 is a used unit and available locally the same applies to it. Buy and check closely if OE. If it's NOT OE then pass on it unless very inexpensive.
